Future Chocco Boy (Welcome Hugo Bear! )

Hugo is 11 weeks tomorrow! We are officially teething, his gums are pink and inflamed just around the top canines but ohhhh do I notice. His mouth lands on everything and anything with such strength. ✨This too shall pass✨ But we are working really hard on leave it and he’s doing … mostly well for an 11 week old Labrador puppy! His favourites right now are one corner of my kitchen rug, and one of my curtains in my entrance way. Leash work is going well also, just on my driveway still, I can’t wait to walk him around my neighborhood

I took him to work again a few times this past week, so he has met lots of doctors, nurses, paramedics, security guards, all in different uniforms, and wearing masks which is new to him as of this week. And of course was held by almost everyone and he was a star. He’s heard alarms go off, babies crying, kids yelling, people hustling about, just the usual chaos that comes in an Emergency ward, and he did so great 😍

When Hugo gets a little tired he comes in and crawls on my lap, or beside my feet for cuddles which is adorable and makes me so excited for the big boy he will mature in to. It’s these moments I cherish and know are sneak peeks to our future ❤

It’s incredibly hard to get photos of him these days as he just doesn’t sit still 😆

It's great that you can take him to work with you
I can only bring him for visits but it’s so great for him as well as for the staff 😊 Pet therapy is so special  Patients love getting to look at him too of course. Many people stop me and ask if they can take his photo or if I can take a photo of them holding him, which melts my heart!

Gizmo are getting friendly, lovely.
Gizmo has come along ways over the last week! Hugo full on jumps right on top of Gizmo and pancakes him and Gizmo will play back or just keep walking away. Huge improvements! 😍 He still puts Hugo in his place but not near as much, maybe a hiss or two a day now. Last night Gizmo actually lied down and rolled on his back and played with Hugo for only a minute but still, that was a first!

Ella always did this as a puppy. So cute.

Ella still does this as a 26kg grown up dog. Still sorta cute, but mostly a bit uncomfortable 😆
So funny how they don’t realize their size 😆

I love this thread! Hugo is going to be a gorgeous big cuddly bear, I can tell!
I agree, I think he will be very cuddly! I can’t wait ❤

Oh he is so adorable my heart aches. And I'm so glad Gizmo is coming around. It was like this with Oscar and Benson and they ended up great friends (and allies when it came to getting the hoomans out of bed for breakfast)
That’s so cute! But I may have jinxed things, last couple days Hugo has been way too much energy for Gizmo, so we have had a setback. I’m trying to redirect as best I can but it’s hard because how often he’s on top of the poor cat! 🫣

Hugo is 12 weeks old today! He has had his second vaccinations and weighs 10.6kg.

It’s been a challenging week… he’s had a bad runny bum again, not as bad as before but for some reason it was only happening over night, every two hours he would cry loud for urgent diarrhea 😥 of course right as I was going back to work. Another round of antibiotics was started but he had a solid poop after the first dose so not sure if the meds were needed in the end 🤔

His obsession with chewing everything is relentless. I’m losing my mind and want to cry most of the time. And I have bruises and cuts all over me from his biting.

But…. This too shall pass… just wish it was sooner than later at the moment. But I love him so much and I can at least see the light at the end of the tunnel ❤

I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time Kelsey, I truly sympathise. And now you have to go back to your incredibly important job rather worse for wear :(. I remember crying all the time too but hang in there, we are with you - even if we can't physically help!
Thank you, helps to vent it out to people who understand! A lot of my friends don’t understand at all because they have never raised a Labrador.

I had 3 hours of sleep last night, had to work at 630am and I came home beyond tired. I wrote the update on here and just wanted to curl up and sleep and it’s like he knew. He snuggled on the couch with me for an hour and a half and we cuddled and snoozed away. Even though he had just slept 8.5 hours while I was at work. Times like this reminds me we are on the right track it’s just getting through these tougher times.

You are absolutely on the right track Kelsey, keep going - and as I think you very wisely said to me a few weeks ago (might have dreamt it!?), it’s these tough times that help build your relationship which you’ll benefit from massively in the future. Keep going and it’ll be over soon.
I spent the first few weeks* of teething crying a lot, partly frustration at feeling not able to help, partly not knowing what he needed and mainly huge sleep deprivation. Be really, really gentle with yourself and cut corners where possible - if you can get ready meals and it makes life easier, do it. If a friend offers to help, accept it and get them to come and babysit for a couple of hours while you get some sleep, if you’ve got a local laundry service use it. For now it’s just about getting through with your sanity intact (ish), so definitely use easy wins where you can. And if you want to sweary vent and roar into your keyboard, please do DM me - I’m here and a very receptive audience!

* [I’m certain Stilton is having a harder time than most so please don’t take this as a disheartening benchmark! I know several current lab puppies who had a couple of weeks of teething and were then over the worst]

Tonight continues to be really good with Hugo. SO needed after such a bad week. Thank you for the words, definitely helps! But yes, I’ve been doing a lot of short cuts especially when it comes to cooking… halloween candy classifies as dinner right ? 🥴 And well, it’s so much easier said than done regarding the tough times building a relationship 😂 now that I’m in it, it feels never ending 😅 But I remind myself a million times a day that it is not.
