Getting desperate!

Oh, the other upside is that in a few weeks (ok maybe stretching into a couple of months) you'll suddenly realize that things have become so much better... and that you love your little fur bundle to the moon and back and that you cannot possibly imagine life without him, and you'll feel cold shivers at the thought that you ever for an instant considered giving him back. I'm serious; this really happens. You CANNOT IMAGINE LIFE WITHOUT YOUR DOG... and nothing is better than seeing that happy face and wagging tail when you come home. Nothing beats it. :)

Hi all,
Last night was a bit (what am I saying a bit?? A LOT) of a nightmare, all created by me I’m afraid 😳 he wouldn’t go for a poo and took him forrrrrrever to have a wee before bedtime, I put him in his playpen with the door already shut, he screamed like I was murdering him, I left him to it and went upstairs, he screamed for about 20 minutes then sIlence. I set my alarm for 3:30am (which is the time I get up for work) ....came down at 3:30 to take him out, he had already peed (note to self -set alarm earlier) took him outside and he assumed it was playtime...he had a wee eventually but still no poo, beck inside, back in playpen, more screaming because by this time he’d woken himself up fully, my bad!!! I should have played with him for a bit I’m guessing to tire him out again, but tbh I wasnt really in the mood at 4am. Anyway I put him back in and went back upstairs, he screamed for about half an hour and then stopped, so I fell asleep, woke up at 7 to more screaming, came down to pee and poo all over playpen! Ughhh that was my fault me thinks 😕 apologised profusely and cleaned all the mess up.

You actually did right ! Playing with them at some unearthly hour is not a good idea , it should be out, wait and hopefully get a result , then straight back , if you play at that time, they will remember, clever little monsters that they are ! x

Ah, it's a massive learning curve and all pups are different. I crate trained the twins for overnights, setting an alarm to let them out regularly, but decided with my latest pup to try the "crate in pen" approach so I didn't have to get up as much. What a total failure it was for her - she would wee and poo and then roll in it and scream - and she had a plenty big enough crate in a 2m x 2m pen! The first night, she pooed SEVEN TIMES. Each time, she rolled in it, screamed and had to be cleaned up. Ah, I can laugh about it now...

That's not to say that a crate in pen is a bad choice, it just didn't suit her. For other pups, it's absolutely perfect. It's about learning each other's rhythms and what works best for that puppy. No-one can tell you "this is the best way" because they're all such individuals. Luckily, you have a wealth of experience available to you here, so we can share what we have tried and what has worked for us, and you can try the suggestions you wish with little George.

My mum came earlier and I cried, a lot!! Had another go at the treat when he’s quiet thing, he just keeps on and on, no matter how many times I treat, so decided on another tactic, just ignore him until he stops...well...we went into the kitchen and carried on our conversation, George screamed...after about 20 minutes he stopped and went to sleep, I’m not sure this is the right way to deal with it, but it worked. After a while he woke up and before he had a chance to scream I took him out for a wee, then he was sitting in the kitchen with us and fell asleep under the chair. Then we went out, I bought a dog pushchair last week from an fb selling page, felt a bit of a wally I must admit but he’s so wriggly it’s difficult to carry him. And we've another 3 weeks to go before his second injection so needs must and all that. So off we go, he wasn’t overly impressed with his mode of transport but hey ho, he didnt yowl. I bought a bag of carrots in home bargains and gave one to George ...he loved it 😊 kept him amused in the buggy for ages until he discovered that trying to hang himself was much more fun!! Also bought a calming collar, blimey does it STINK!! A cross between lavender and week old socks, pretty nasty but I’m hoping it works. Got home and took him out for a wee, and put the collar on (awkward as to get the blasted thing through both holes) he’s currently asleep in his crate with playpen door shut, whether it’s the collar or he’s exhausted from screaming I don’t know but for now my ears are not being abused!

Seven times?? Blimey!! Luckily he only did it once but he managed to liberally spread it all over the place, I will set my alarm earlier tonight so hopefully we’ll avoid that sort of mes

Do not leave any collars on your boy while he's in his crate or pen unattened or at night. They can get caught on things and strangle. Wasn't sure if anyone had mentioned this to you.

Arrrgh, even if there’s nothing to catch in? Shall I just leave the collar where he can smell it?? Although to be perfectly honest no one can avoid smelling it vis it stinks to high heaven

This!!!!!

I burst into tears at the thought of never not having Stanley or him being upset or sad or scared.

In a few weeks you won’t even mind the bad bits as much because you’ll love him so much you just think he’s worth it (and he is!!). 🥰

right this instant I’m full of doubt about such feelings
Of course you are, sometimes we have to earn the bond, he's nothing more than a tiny baby with everything before him. It will pass, he will become housetrained, they all do.

I love the buggy idea, I remember how heavy Cassie got before she was fully vaccinated. It got so much better once I could get her out and about.

I think @HAH summed up this forum well when she said we are all here for the tears and cheers!
