Getting your Labrador to take tablets

Well, I made a boo-boo this morning; I'd finished off a tub of their food last night and forgot to take the other half out of the freezer, so they had chicken carcasses for breakfast instead, which they loved, but aren't the best for delivering medication. So I chopped up some brie and moulded it around the capsules. Ginny is incredibly suspicious with new foods, so I had to feed her a few small bits before she decided I wasn't trying to poison her after all, and then popped the loaded one in, followed by a chaser of an uncontaminated piece. Then the same again for the second. She chews everything you give her, so following it up with a second bit makes her less likely to spit out the one she has in her mouth.

Luna and Willow, gulp! and it's gone. No hesitation, no suspicion, just give me the cheeeeeeeeeeze!!!

Moo was exactly the same so suspicious. When I've talked to others whose dogs are on meds and ill they always say the same too. They really learn to look for hidden stuff and associate the drugs with feeling ill. Eating made Moo feel ill so she got suspicious of food too. It was difficult to get her to eat. I know some days she felt awful I was glad when she ate anything.
