I recommend the Furminator. I know they had a lot of bad press a few years ago, with people saying they cut the hair ( totally false, it's very clearly dead hair that comes out) and suggesting for some reason that they're cruel ( would I really do anything to Joy that's even remotely cruel? I hate myself for treading on her paw accidentally when she's underfoot!) but I've found mine to be the most effective thing ever, particularly for stripping out that dead undercoat. I tell her it's grooming time and she comes running happily to me, I give her a bit of biscuit every so often, stop if she seems to have had enough (of being groomed that is, she's never had enough biscuits of course) and we manage very happily.Red looks great, if maybe a little unimpressed by the process.
I鈥檝e only given Carb贸n two baths EVER and in both cases he smelled worse after than before. And this is from someone who bathed my Rotties weekly. Carb贸n does best with a good dunk in seawater but he never really needs it smell-wise, just the salt water makes his coat lovely and soft.
So far he鈥檚 not moulting but I鈥檓 dreading it. I always try to leave my holiday lets without a trace of fur but it鈥檚 tough going November - December.
I used a shedding blade in my Rotties but Carb贸n hated it. Barring professional grooming, any advice on a gentler tool that really strips them out?
