Had Reuben weighed today

Not because I am paranoid about pups weight, its more what they look like that matters to me , but we were passing , and our Vets do encourage visits for nothing in particular , just so that pups become used to the surgery and staff . I was amazed at his weight , 14.8 kilos and he is only three and a half months old , maybe will slow down at some point or maybe he will be like Sam , a big lad . The Vet came out to see us and gave him the once over for free , declaring him to be in fine fettle , I mentioned that his poo tended to become more soft as the day went on and we deduced that this is due to the fact that he does tend to graze his way around the garden , much roughage ! The only slight issue I have and its not really a huge issue , is that the play between Reuben and Nelly can get very full on , and I do worry a little as the size difference is now enormous , so they do have to be separated at time when it gets a little wild ! Having said this , its usually Nelly who instigates rough stuff , little tyke ! So , my monster is growing like a weed , please slow down a little Reuben , you wont look like a puppy soon xxx

What a good idea just to drop into the vets, then Reuben thinks it’s a place where fun things happen, not just injections...

I’ve just checked, at three and a half months our little Poppy weighed just under 12 kg... Monster Merlin weighed almost 16kg at the same age!! I think Reuben will also be a big lad xxx

At three and a half months, Willow was just shy of 11kg and poor little Shadow was just off 9kg :)
Shadow was 14.4kg at 6 months :D

Stanners has him beat for slinky malinky, though!

On the subject of weight - what treats do you all use for training? The trainers seem to like tinned hotdog sausage but I resisted buying yesterday as it doesn't look healthy to me. Thank you. Should I start a new thread?! x

I use normal kibble then a hard day small fishy treats them I have a special tasty treat and then I have meat love sausages which I chop up. So I've got basic treats and then super tasty ones for specially good behaviour or recalls. I go for low fat ones as I can't use things like cheese or chicken as Rory has colitis.

We get through large amounts of squeezy cheese (the cats like it as well) but I also use kibble, liver cake and a selection of other treats - usually the ones recommended by the forum as being on special offer :$.

I just used kibble when Red was little as everything seemed to upset her. It was a nightmare for quite a long time but eventually we moved onto small cooked pieces of turkey and some of the Fish4Dogs food. I am still very careful with her food but she will β€˜work’ for kibble.
