Hattie's PAT work

Annual Volunteers Tea Party

Hattie and I were invited to the Hospital for the Annual Volunteers Tea Party yesterday. This is an ocassion for staff to thank all the volunteers for what they do for the Hospice and Hospital, it is a lovely event that Hattie and are lucky to be invited to every year. This year there was a guest speaker, a lovely man that at a young age a few years ago woke up one morning feeling like he had flu. The same day he was rushed into Intensive Care where he lost all his limbs over a matter of days, he mouth was affected too. He was diagnosed with a very rare form of Strep. He now visits Hospitals round the country and also does expeditions to raise money and awareness for disabled people around the world. Hattie and I spent some time with him, Hattie was an absolute darling, not fased by his metal arm stroking her or his wheelchair, she sat next to him looking into his eyes and gave him a kiss, melted my heart and his, a special moment for them both

Hattie excelled herself doing the rounds to see just about all the volunteers for cuddles of which there were over 100, she went to all the staff too, many cuddles all round. Embarrassingly we had to have some official NHS photographs done for a leaflet (heaven help the readers looking at my mug!!
 but it's Hattie that is the star) again she sat beautifully and was the perfect model! She also managed to snaffle the odd dropped cake, so a good day all round.

I am thoroughly proud of Hattie, her behaviour as always was perfect she never put a single paw wrong, she knows instinctively what to do with each person she meets. Hattie makes my heart burst with pride when I see her doing what she does best, making people smile and feel happy
Thank you my sweet darling Hattie, I love you so much.

Well , for a start , that photo of you and Hattie is gorgeous !! Now I have liked every post but will go back and read again as I did skim . The reason I skimmed was because I was crying . When I was in Intensive Care, desperately ill , I was asked if I would like a dog to visit me . Hovis , another Labradoodle , is a PAT dog , and the only one ( so far ) in the UK that actually visits an ICU . At the time , I wasn't very lucid but I will never forget this dog , his owner sat with me for some considerable time , and , whilst he was big and Nelly is small , it made me think of her and how I had to get through this fragile time in my life , for my family and for Nelly . Hovis came to see me again , when I was moved to a small critical care ward , and so I can say, from the bottom of my heart, that these wonderful dogs can and do make a massive difference , so thank you Hattie , and you too Helen , what a pair of stars you both are xxxxxxxxx

Firstly thank you @snowbunny for copying my thread which is very important to me. x

Thank you Kate for your lovely, kind words :) I am so happy Hovis made such a difference to your wellbeing whilst you were so ill Kate. Dogs have a magical way of keeping us going, getting us up in the morning to face whatever is happening in our lives. I find so many patients look forward to seeing Hattie every week, dementia patients can't remember very much but when they see her they can sometimes remember her name which is wonderful news for their families. I sit with patients nearing the end of life, to see even a tiny smile on their faces or a stroke for Hattie makes it so worthwhile. Hattie truly comes into her own with these patients and just does her thing. The families are always truly very grateful to Hattie for her pure sensitivity and the comfort she brings during these desperately difficult times. Hattie also brings a lot of comfort to very over worked, stressed staff so everyone gets something from Hattie. We need more PAT dogs as they are better than any medicine :) x

Helen, you are beautiful in your photograph and beautiful inside. I must admit to weeping at the sad histories, but Hattie (and you) have given people so much pleasure and comfort. I went through a bad time once and the person seeing me brought her dogs in, they made life bearable, there is something so different when communing with a dog, sort of soul to soul. Hattie gave the people she met such joy, difficult to describe in the right words which can do justice.xx

Christmas Lunch at The Hospice

Today Hattie & I had our Christmas Lunch at the Hospice. We did our rounds on the wards and the hospice ward then joined the Day Care Centre for a wonderful spread with all the trimmings, it was delicious. Hattie got her turkey lunch too for being so well behaved :)

Hattie lay by my side whilst we had lunch and didn't bother anyone, we sang carols, one of the Doctors came to play Christmas songs on her 'horn' and there was a choir. Hattie was just wonderful, she didn't bat an eyelid even with all the noise and the comings and goings she just lay down and watched the whole thing aswell as making sure all the patients had plenty of attention, licks and cuddles which is a must! :inlove:

I couldn't be more proud of her as it was a long day 4 1/2 hours, she didn't put a single paw wrong. She brought lots of smiles and happiness to everyone during what can be a difficult time of year for some of the patients. In my eyes Hattie is simply a mega :star: Thank you my darling sweet girl for being the wonderful soul you are. Love you. xx

Here is the lady herself modelling her Christmas collar, made by my own fair hands!! :giggl: xx

What a darling she looks and how much happiness she has spread today. It must have been emotional for you and so proud of your little girl. It is a superb photo of her and I could almost feel I could put my hand out and ruffle those curls.
