Have Kongs ‘gone off’?

I guess Kong’s are safe, but I must admit I’ve never felt quite comfortable with the thought of leaving the dogs home alone with them. Mine are completely used to getting a biscuit as I walk out the door, then they just settle down to sleep.

Mine are still all fine (including my cheap Aldi ones) but I saw a post on a Facebook group I’m in saying they were unhappy with kongs.

I test my Kongs and throw them long before they can be chewed into pieces. They usually last about four years, these didn’t last four months! If I get replacements from the company I will use them in the same way. But I’m not buying new ones until I get an answer and work out if Spencer’s chewing weakened them or it was a change in the Kongs themselves.

I’ve had a reply -

Hi Margaret

Thank you for your email. I’m sorry to hear about the problem you’ve had with our KONG Classic.

We appreciate your feedback and closely monitor unanticipated responses to our toys so I will pass your comments on to our Head Office.

I would like to assure you all KONG toys are tested extensively before being put on the market.

Customer (and canine) satisfaction is important to us so if you’d be able to let me know the breed and weight of Tatze then I’ll be able to help you further from there.

Many Thanks

KONG Europe

Sounds like the response I got - they told me I should be using a bigger size and sent me their recommended size/type of rubber. I had to pay the shipping though (almost as much as just buying it myself!). To be fair, the XL black they sent me has held up better than the L black I bought afterwards.
