He only wants to play.....

We've probably all been on the receiving end of a call that 'he only wants to play' or 'he only wants to be friendly' as an off lead dog comes running at you and your dog while out walking. It can be annoying, it can lead to physical injury but sometimes possibly even worse is the mental harm it can do to a dog :( . So please read this FB post which popped up on my feed this morning on the repercussions for some of a 'friendly dog'.

Poor Bob but so glad there was a positive outcome with lots of work. David and I get so fed up with this kind of behaviour when out with Charlie. He doesn't like all dogs but nobody cares about that no matter how many times we say it. Last week a Cocker Spaniel ran round him like a white tornado, jumping up at his face so Charlie barked at it but coped well, no owner to be seen. She finally arrived looking frazzled and took the dog away but not an apology not even an acknowledgement about what her dog had caused. My friend with a Doberman who is very unfriendly has this problem every day, she asks owners to please put their dog on lead as he isn't friendly, some do others have even said to her "what do you want me to do about it" to which she now replies "suit yourself I have warned you". I find it's down to ignorance and lack of understanding. I know Hattie is a super friendly dog but I still put her on lead if a dog approaches that we don't know it's just good manners, something that is massively missing with most owners :( Nobody knows what could be wrong with another dog e.g deaf, blind, had surgery, be poorly, old or simply DOES NOT LIKE OTHER DOGS. Why can't people just be respectful it doesn't take much. xx

We've had our own incident here with Shamas, close to home

Thankfully I've worked with him extensively, so when the gigantic mastiff charged full speed at us he didn't panic....but it could've easily been a dog fight given my boys reactivity. The only dogs he can approache so far are the obviously friendly ones who have no sign of dominance. And our area is where he's at his most reactive

Two big dogs bounded up to us last weekend snarling and growling. Maxx was on the lead as it wasn't an off-lead area. OH was not backward in yelling at the owner and telling him to get your ##### dogs away or I will ###### ####. OH isn't small and the coward ran off and luckily his dogs followed him
