Hello from Jess and Brodie

Hello,

Thanks to @Selina27 for letting me know about this forum. I used to post occasionally on TLF as 'blackandwhitedog' and it's nice to see so many familiar names here. At that time I had one working cocker, Jess. Now I have two!

Jess is 4 and Brodie is one this month. They are great fun, both typical cockers in that they are full of energy, incredibly affectionate and good-natured but very different personalities and very different challenges.

Jess loves people and loves other dogs but is extremely noise sensitive and has never been very interested in training of any sort. She likes a quiet, comfortable life of sofas and beds, interspersed with familiar country walks.

Brodie is a tornado - tackles the world at 100 mph and throws himself into everything (literally). He loves training and is very quick to learn. He loves adventures and new experiences.

I have been finding that I don't have much enthusiasm for training at the moment, perhaps due to covid and perhaps just the time needed for two dogs rather than one. Brodie has very good recall and walks well on a lead provided he is on a front-fastening harness, and will sit/stay fairly well. But that's about it. He is obsessed with tennis balls and when he has one is very reluctant to give it up (we trained him to give by swapping what he had in his mouth for something of equal or higher value. This worked so well that he now has a very precise sense of currency and as a tennis ball is the MOST valuable thing in his economy he won't give it up until he wants to.... I'd love to fix this, but not quite sure how.
Anyway, I could ramble on about the dogs for hours and probably will. For now will just say hi to all the humans and dogs on here! :tail:

Hi @Jessica, welcome to the forum, so glad you found us and to @Selina27 for telling you about us! 'blackandwhitedog' does sound familiar :)
Good to hear about your doggies, we've just acquired a puppy -Bear, now 16.5 weeks, to join Monty who is 6.5. It's definitely more than double the work at the moment - but if you've got good recall and loose lead walking - that's worth more than anything in my book!

You'll see from other threads - not sure if you have access to 'The Whine Bar' yet - we've all had our ups and downs with dogs (and humans) during lockdown, so feel free to rant here if necessary!

Hello and a warm welcome from Joy (small black Lab, three years old now) and me.
Lovely to have you with us! Your dogs are gorgeous. Joy absolutely loves Spaniels!:dug::smiledog:

Hey @Jessica, great to see you here! I love that first photo in particular, the colours in the coat are just wonderful!

My training mojo has got up and gone over the recent months, too. We really enjoy it when we do it, but it feels like too much mental energy to plan the sessions at the moment. So, you're not alone. My dogs are all healthy and supremely happy, and I'm sure yours are too :)
