SInce my last post Holly has remained fairly stable. She has small coughing episodes a few times a day, usually after sleeping or resting when water can settle in her lungs, but these don't seem to worry her.
We seem to have settled on a 'new normal'. After breakfast and pills we go for a short walk of about 40-50 minutes. We vary the location to make them as intersting as possible and take it slowly so she can stop & sniff around when she feels like it. When the weather is nice we try to go to one of the cafes in the Forest of Dean so we can finish the walk with a coffee and (shared) cake. She like sharing our cakes!
She has a nap in the afternoon and wakes about 4:00 for her afternoon pills (in bits of Frankfurter) and a gentle play.
She can still make it upstairs and get onto the bed, though she now takes the stairs one at a time instead of a mad charge. Unfortunately for us she needs to get up every night at about 3:00 to visit the garden. We've been giving her diuretics in the morning to try and overcome this but it makes little difference. I guess its something we just have to put up with.
Two months ago we thought we were going to lose her. We're grateful for the extra time we've been given with her, and really appreciate that vetinary medicine has been able to restore a good of quality life for her.
As I wrote that last sentence she came to my desk with her favourite toy, a stuffed leg of an old pair of Levis called 'Mr Humpycushion' (don't ask) so its playtime. Gotta go!
