Husky Puppy Plight ;(;(

On TLF I posted about my daughters best friends Mum buying a Husky puppy from a suspect "Breeder" without any research, a total spur of the moment decision and how they weren't exactly training or looking after him. Some progress was made but it all fell apart. Well the story just gets worse. The puppy now 8 months old chewed her Jimmy Choo's and various other items. She throws him into the garden so now he is frightened to go inside the house, throws balls at him when he does something wrong, bats him off the sofa so he's scared, no water available at times, he's on his own for many hours per day. Need I say any more you get the picture  Grace's BF has been staying with us for 4 months and has just told me that her Mum has sold the puppy to her brother and wife who already have two German Shepherds that NEVER get walked are left all day on their own, one of the dogs stands on his hind legs and barks all day long at everything that walks past, the neighbours have complained in the past. The house is filthy and the dogs can't easily move around due to the amount of furniture they have. So now they think its very wise to add a howling Husky into this already awful situation. I gave details of three Husky specific rescue centres so that the puppy could be rehomed with an appropriate family but no she has decided to do the worst thing for this poor puppy as it took no effort and she can wash her hands of him. I am as angry as hell :mad: but deeply, deeply sorry for the puppy who didn't ask for this in the first place.:cry: xx

 I think it's so wrong that anyone can just go and buy a puppy on a whim. Huskys can be very difficult to train especially if you haven't a clue what your dealing with. My friend's brother got a husky a couple of years ago. Beautiful dog called storm with gorgeous blue eyes. He didn't think it necessary to get his alsation bitch spayed or Storm neutered !!! Have a guess what happened. Yep a litter of alsation Husky pups. Turns out this cross is very popular and he was able to sell them all easily. My friend and her brother were brought up with Alsatians and while I don't think all their methods of training would meet with our approval their dogs are well trained. What happened to all those pups though is anyone's guess. You did your very best to help this husky pup Helen. It's such a shame your advice fell on deaf ears. I guess the only positive is the pup isn't stuck home alone anymore.

It beggars belief sometimes, especially when help and kind advice is offered. I can completely understand why you're fuming. Often these attitudes do get passed through the generations, so at least you're doing something to stop the rot by setting great examples for your daughter's BF - that's the best I can see for now x

@Charlie People like that just shouldn't have dogs. I don't understand people who get a dog then spend no time with it. Dogs aren't ornaments. I actually meant the husky won't be on his own because he'll have other dogs for company on the assumption they get on of course. The future owners are as much of a waste of space as it's present owner from the sounds of it.

My friend and her OH are actually on the committee of the Husky rescue in our State. They get soooooooooo many unwanted pups at 8-12 months, it's heartbreaking.

Last year she actually took one of her boys (Czar - an 11yr old Siberian Husky - who is absolutely wonderful) to work on the Husky Rescue stand at the state dogs show. Rather than "showing off" the breed, she used her time to explain to people the tricky characteristics of the breed and how they may not be suitable as a "pet" for people.
