hypoallergenic dog foods?

Just coming back to this thread to say that the Royal Canin HA food made a huge difference to Brodie and he has solid poos consistently now. So what next?? I need to decide whether to buy another £70 bag of RC or start thinking about introducing a "permanent" food. The HA has made such a difference that to be honest we haven't stuck rigidly to the elimination diet and he still gets little nibbles of extra food though not commercial treats. (Though he has had some gravy bones in the past few days as we bought a box for Jess's birthday! They haven't affected his poos which is good, though he's only getting a couple a day). That makes me think there's not a real allergy at all, just that the foods we had him on didn't agree with him. He was on fish-based food (Barking Heads salmon + potato, then Skinners Salmon and rice) so I think we want to avoid those. Just wondering if people here have any suggestions as to what I should do now to determine what food to put him on? I do like the look of the butternut boxes but am just wondering how to decide what to to do. Or do we just keep him on the RC indefinitely?

I'm not in the UK, so can't comment on exact foods but following the vet diet we had Quinn on, the vet specialist recommended as we moved her to a regular food to choose oatmeal as the grain for sensitivities - I chose a lamb and oatmeal formula for sensitive stomachs. It's been more than a year and a half and she's done super well with it. For the first year, the only treats I gave were also lamb based. Now, it seems her gut has healed and treats no longer throw her off (with some exceptions).

@Jessica, If the Royal Canid HA food is suiting him, then I would continue with it. Have you a reason for not doing so?
Not really I suppose! The RC is expensive, but so are the other options we are looking at. It is soy-based, which seems a bit odd for a long term diet but I guess it's balanced and designed to be sufficiently nutritious for long-term. Brodie doesn't seem to LOVE it but he eats it happily enough. So you are right, I should probably just leave him on it. I don't really know why I would prefer something else!
