Of course you're enough for him, Kate! Do you know the John Martyn song, 'Couldn't love you more' ? It was a favourite of Trevor's and mine. To quote part of it, 'If you lay all night in the rain for me, I couldn't love you more, just couldn't love you more.'
That's what I suspect you would have done. He couldn't love you more. You are enough for him.:heart::hug:

I just listened to the song , you are right , I would have stayed there all night if I had to , rather than leave him alone , that song made me cry, bless you xxxxxxx

I totally understand how you feel @kateincornwall , been there many times for much the same reasons.

Some thing to bear in mind though. There are such things as accidents and they can happen when we trip or the dog doesn't respond as quickly as we want. As others have said, he's a youngster and sometimes things running in front of him are a hell of a lot more appealing than you are.

You are doing brilliantly with that pup and he is so confident that he will take on anything - for fun :dug:

Don't think you are not enough - you are plenty - as will become very apparent in time x

Of course you are enough for Reuben and he is lucky to have you. He could be in some gun dog kennels and never know the warmth and love of a house, a dog loves you for who you are. I was 75 when I had Rourke and he has kept me active and young in mind. It is just bad luck that he has tendonitis and I cannot do with him what I would like anymore.

Just sharing one moment which I can laugh about now . When we eventually got within sight of our car , I saw thatPaul was with Nelly on her lead , just a few yards from the car , wandering aimlessly , we all called out and waved frantically , he grinned and waved back to see us heading his way . Then , he said these immortal words " Debbie has put a chicken in the oven for us " :rofl: x

:rofl: I bet you were mighty glad she had done so when it came to tea time!

Does remind me though when I was about 12 my Mum was chopping some kindling and a piece flew up and hit her in the eye, quite painful. My Dad, who walked round the corner just as it happened said "Don't you think it's time you bought yourself some new Wellington boots?" :rofl:

Goodness, I just love Paul. If I didn't love you too, I'd try to steal him off you. :wasntme:

You are sounding in much better spirits today and that makes me happy. Didn't like hearing you down yesterday but the others did a great job of calling you out for feeling that you aren't enough for Reuben. No way no how that's true!

I'm sorry you were feeling pants (my new favourite word) Kate. How are you feeling today?

I remember when I got the call from Steve to say Maxx had taken off and run out of the park and would have run straight onto a busy road if it wasn't for a jogger who grabbed him. The poor bloke was clearly terrified of dogs but his good heart made him do it. My heart stopped but Steve was so upset he firstly yelled but then broke down and cried. These dogs get into our hearts in a way that you can't describe and it's easy to feel that you let them down. But we don't. We just keep on learning

Feeling much better thanks for asking @Lab_adore Robyn xx Got some lovely bruises coming out , and my poorly wrist took a bashing but never mind, onwards and upwards xx I took the dogs to Golitha Falls early this morning , we did some recall which went well , then met up with a friend and her four dogs , so we all had a gentle bimble along together . Reuben is very clingy at the moment , to the point that he has reverted to sleeping on the bed again , and also panics if he cant see me on a walk , when a tree gets in his way , not a bad thing really . I had a really good look at him yesterday, ran my hands all over him , he has a few surface cuts and some small gashes on his legs too , must have been from jumping the damned fence , so they have been bathed in mild hibiscrub , he is a very lucky boy xx

I am just going to enjoy the puppy recall while we still have it! Coming back from the fields yesterday with all four dogs.....recalled them (verbally...) Otter came hurtling back if the devil himself was behind her....the rest of them well it was eh?? Wha??? Sorry but dat smells gud..( head stuck in guinea pig poo )... I was just relieved no one was watching! :rofl:

But we all have those awful, stomach-churning experiences. We just need to chalk it up to experience and move on...armed with extra yummies for the next walk...:hug:

Glad you are feeling more positive now, these things can really knock us for six. But the only way is to carry on and chalk it up to experience, you are both (reasonably) fine and things could have been so much worse. Glad you are out and about with the dogs again - best therapy I think, and bless Paul and his thoughts of food in time of crisis - typical bloke!

Thanks so much again, for your votes of confidence xx Debbie reminded me yesterday of the times when Sam was an absolute bugger at this age , which we tend to forget when we put those blasted rose coloured glasses on :mmm: Reuben was smashing on his walk yesterday afternoon , but I`m not daft enough to think that he is now cured of his love of the chase , its now up to me to minimise the risks .

One thing that I'm really grateful for is the advice via the Forum to play find it games and such like to keep Cassie close to me, it works so well. I'd stopped doing it for a while as with my gundog training there's so much else to practice. But last week we added in the search whistle, and use it to hunt for treats in the grass, Cass already knew this but I have been doing it more again this week. She loves it, it uses up her scenting/searching/hunting desire really well and I find that she will often come to me in certain places where we have done this as if asking to play this game.
I'm sure you already know all this with all your experience, but just thought I'd mention :)
