Immunotherapy for Itchy Dogs

Thanks for all the comments, they are appreciated. Yes it is difficult at times, and hopefully we will get it under control. We will see how this summer pans out and I will keep it updated.
Hopefully other people will find this thread useful, I am sure they will.

I know a lot of you have said how lucky she is that we have her, and yes she is. But I always think we are the lucky ones to have her. The amount of joy and happiness she brings is amazing and unmeasurable. But also just the way she takes everything in her stride, she has taught me a few things along the way, and for that I can't thank her enough.

Vanilla went for her checkup to see if we would proceed with the treatment or look at alternatives.
The score sheet showed very little improvement over the course of treatment, as in only 1.5 score better than when we started. It also was not in the range to start stopping to give Apoquel.
After examining her and discussing options, we are now on a course of Cytopoint. We have to advise the specialist in a weeks time to see if there are any improvements and then take it from there. We may end up with just this and continue on a course of Cytopoint or it could be a mixture of any of the items tried so far.
We still have to put creams, shampoos etc. on her, but that is a minor point.

Hopefully this will work as we are still within the hot weather, which is when she does increase her itchiness. So our task is to take her to places that we would not take her whilst she was on the Immunotherapy treatment. This is to determine if it is making a difference, so we will see.

Hope cytopoint will work for your girl. One of mine has a monthly injection of cytopoint and it is working brilliantly for him. It has literally switched off any itching.

Cytopoint contains an engineered antibody which recognises and neutralises a single protein which induces the itchiness in dogs with atopic dermatitis. It is not so much a drug but a biological treatment and is administered by injection. Some dogs need a monthly injection and others can go longer between injections.

It sounds like magic! Are there side effects?

I’ll chat to my vet about this. My poor boy suffers from bad itchiness from time to time.

I missed the original post here, so this is fascinating and very useful for us, as Molly is another itchy dog. Luckily though, she is nowhere near as itchy as poor Vanilla.
We also think the cause is environmental as it worsens as the grass starts to grow in spring.
Thanks for this post, it has info. we can talk to our vet about too.

Very best wishes for Vanilla.

Thanks all yes so do I or at least a combination. Of course having to put her through environments that we have ignored for ages due to her allergies is a bit nervous, given that if it does not work she will flare up and be on more medication to reduce anything...but hopefully it will be fine
