Introducing Jacob

Girls are the best! But little boy puppies are soooo hansum!! 😍

When I saw the vets with Squidge, both in Surrey and in Cornwall, they were both totally full of nonsense about puppydom. Don’t get me wrong, they were kind and well-meaning, but they were absolutely and totally backwards when it came to the behaviour stuff.
When she had conjunctivitis at a few weeks old and she pulled away from the vet, that person (young, should have known better) told me that she was being naughty, chocolate Labs were known for it, and I should sort it out as soon as possible. I’ve been told I shouldn’t use food for training because my dogs will get fat... even in the same session where I’m being complimented for my fit dogs.
Stereotypes take a long time to die. You know most of it is bollocks. Just keep doing what you’re doing :)
My vets are quite different, there is a pot of treats on the side in consulting room and a pot of little bono type biscuits on the reception desk. He believes in handling gently and when Rourke was initially scared of him, he would walk into the waiting room backwards so as not to frighten him more. Rourke now drags me into the vet :)

Oh, he is just gorgeous. I so want a puppy. :cwl:%)
See, I think I'm just not a puppy person...though of course I'd love one if I had one. I just don't get broody. I look at the videos with Monty and little dude and think, "Oh, isn't Monty lovely, I'd love another dog like him." I look at little dude and think, "Oh, he's cute but isn't she worried about that hand-made throw he's chewing on and I bet she hasn't had any sleep since Monday."

I'd like to have a "grand-puppy" and get to visit him and play with him and hand him back. 😁

I really get this. He's cute, and we love him already, but it actually makes me love Monty even more. I don't want to wish away the puppy days, but they are tough and literally painful, and for me it's about moulding and training the adult dog who will hopefully be in our lives for many years to come.

Exactly. Puppies ARE cute - but you can hand them back, hooray. I'm watching @Sophiedoodle 's puppy school and thinking....hmm....I could get a grown-up puppy after Sophie has done the hard bit

I do keep reading these and thinking “am I crazy because I literally do the hard bit and hand them over after that” :giggl: :giggl: I don’t get to enjoy the bit AFTER the hard bit:hmm:
