Introduction to new Puppy

I agree with the others - have your plans ready, but be prepared to ditch them and just go with the flow as necessary! We had the crate all ready for Merlin, but he HATED it, so much that after six weeks of 4:00 am crying we gave up and just let him sleep with Poppy...

The only hard and fast advice I would give you, is be careful to give Vanilla lots and lots of attention; make time with the puppy fun for her but give her every opportunity to escape when she needs peace. Take time to do fun things with her on her own, as well. If she doesn't feel the puppy is a threat or in competition, she will likely accept her very quickly.

When we go out, Reuben is in the kitchen behind a baby gate , with his bed, a toy and a kong whereas Nelly has the free roam , it doesn't seem to bother him that she is around and it certainly doesn't bother her either, both are where we left them when we get home . To an extent , I think you have to wing it when bringing a new puppy home , play it by ear and good luck , looking forward to photos xx

Yes we have the kongs all ready etc. and I have no plan on changing the interaction with Vanilla. She will still get her time with me both play and walks.
I just hope she settles quickly and does not have problems being on her own, given that she is leaving her litter and comes to us with another dog already here. Don't want to her become a cry baby for hours etc. as that won't help anyone, especially if she becomes attached to Vanilla quickly.

But will play it by ear and see. I am sure plans will change on a minute by minute...
