Is your dog a licker ?

Sky is not a licker (she does lick DH) but Red is very much so. She is an incredibly affectionate dog. We discourage the grandchildren getting too close to prevent licking of their faces but DH will let her smother him in licks. I love Red’s little hand licks when you have given her something or done something fun with her - she’s definitely saying thank you

Maisy licks me when we are cuddled up on the settee or my feet when she is under my desk. Also when she is grooming she will lick anything that gets in the way. She will occasionally give a new person she meets a lick on the face if they bend down to her, obviously they are after this and are not offended. One old fella came into the shop once and made a fuss of her and she sniffed him and licked his hand and face, he had tears in his eyes and said that she had made his day. Bought tears to my eyes too.

Poppy is a nicely brought up, well-behaved girl. She keeps herself clean, but only does her washing in private. Sometimes she will give a much-honoured human a gentle little lick on the hand, a sign of affection only offered to the privileged few.

Merlin is, of course, the complete opposite. He is an enthusiastic and boisterous licker of all human body parts, with particular emphasis on ears. He is also very keen on keeping his boy-bits clean, which he does publicly with great gusto and slurping.

Yes, Molly is and it drives me bonkers. It's part of her jumping up thing, she goes straight for faces and if at all possible slaps her tongue right over people's mouths and noses - eeeeyuck :tmi:

I think it stems from her early puppyhood when her breeders, the man particularly, would hunker down with the pups climbing all over him, licking his face. For all that I'm moaning, they are the loveliest people you could wish for, and they absolutely adore their dogs, it's just that this behaviour seems to have stuck with Molly and I'm having the devil's own job trying to stop it.
Will keep trying though.

Carbon is a serious licker...ergo the nickname "Besito Boy". He's my first dog who likes to lick humans and I have to say that I'm not that fond of it. However, it gives him so much happiness that I just kind of go with it.

He's figured out that I'll avoid him licking my face after I've put my make up on, so it's our compromise that he'll go for me most mornings and evenings. In the morning he usually wakes me up by laying on top of my and dive bombing my face with kisses. Which is pretty funny, to be honest.

Oh, and he's licking my feet right now. He wants his dinner.

Molly's not a licker - an occasional quick kiss but that's it. The lickiest dog I've had was my first, Penny, a Springer, who loved to be allowed to lick my feet!

Kipper is a keen licker - particularly bits with veins near the surface :hmm: like elbow pits and wrists. I rather love it. He also pretty obsessively licks OH’s left hand at certain times of day e.g. evenings. We have ongoing discussions - “can you stop him?” “No, it’s up to you - if you don’t like it you need to give a distraction and stop letting him lick you”. “...but I like it sometimes!” 🤷‍♀️

Pepper is most definitely a keen licker, that's his preferred way of waking me up in the morning - leaps onto the bed and then proceeds to wash my face. OH is not so keen on this! He also likes a good lick whenever I come into the house, as if he hasn't seen me for days. And whenever I bend down to tie my shoe laces that's another opportunity not to be missed. He also likes to give himself a good clean just before he goes to sleep.
