Does anyone use the monthly injection for itchy dogs? Does it work better than the tablets. Thanks
No because it can effect kidneys and liver.also it has/can have more gastric side effectsWhat do you think about Apoquel? We were considering it early this year, but then the weather got cold and Snowie stopped being itchy. Now it’s Spring and his tummy is raging red and he can’t stop licking and scratching. Apparently it’s like cortisone but more targeted, so has less negative effects. I haven’t heard of the injections here.
I’m in such a quandary. He’s almost 10 yo. Protect his kidneys and liver but he suffers from itchiness, or take the risk and give him an itch-free rest if his life?No because it can effect kidneys and liver.also it has/can have more gastric side effects
I had to give Red Apoquel the summer before last. I read everything about it and found it quite scary. Fortunately it worked so she wasn’t on it long. I think it’s very distressing for dog and owner when they are itching and agree with @SwampDonkey - quality not quantityWhat do you think about Apoquel?
I’ve been happy with apoquel - it gives some flexibility for Quinn who I’ve managed her seasonal itchiness and gotten down to one pill every 2-3 days for two months only this year. I would discuss apoquel vs cytopoint with your vet as there are pros and cons to both. I chat to our vet each spring about which way to go. I have been giving Quinn a different oil on her food (from the vet) for skin support and the difference was big in her level of itchiness this year - much reduced so it’s almost better than I didn’t do cytopoint this year because I wouldn’t have known if it was the injection working or not. What do you think about Apoquel
