I have known Jan for many years , for some of them we were very good friends then life got in the way and sadly over the past year we havent really kept in touch very often . This morning I learned that she has just passed away .
Jan was one of the first force free trainer/behaviourists I ever met , bringing a whole new ethos to dogs and their handlers .
Not only was she wonderful with dogs but she was a wonderful human being , kind and caring so I wanted to share this little illustration of why she will be so missed by all who knew her .
About 12 or so years ago , Jan and her husband became official foster parents to her youngest grandson when his Mum was no longer capable of caring for him . The little lad was about 7 or so at the time and had suffered much emotional trauma in his short life but despite them both being in their 50`s , Jan and her husband were not phased by what may lay ahead , they simply got on with it .
It was the eve of C`s birthday and as was the norm for them, he woke Jan crying because he had wet the bed for the second time that night . Jan bundled the bedding and pyjamas into the wash , gave C a quick shower and went to find yet more clean nightwear but all she could find was an old pair of PJ`s which were really too small but they would do .
The next morning , she woke to hear C calling out , ran into his bedroom where he declared that this was the best birthday ever , because , holding out his arms , he had grown
Jan took everything in her stride , even when C was diagnosed as autistic , and alongside caring and providing a loving home life for C , she continued to help those in need with their dogs , often wavering her fee . She was also dedicated to helping to rehabilitate broken little dogs in her own home , her passing is a sad loss and also to me a sad reminder to strive to keep closer touch to friends and not let life get in the way xxx
