Kennel Cough?

The last 3 mornings, Primrose has been up early sounding like she's throwing up, but not, and kind of coughing/hacking like there is something in her throat. She did it once or twice yesterday evening, but that's it. I'm thinking it's either she has something bugging her in her throat (like a piece of stick maybe, or from eating a bee), she hurt her throat by lunging against a flat collar on the weekend, or she picked up a cough.

It's just odd that it's the same time each morning. Nothing else off - eating, hyper, sleeping normally, clear eyes.

Would you go to the vet?

I don't know about Kennel cough - but sounds unlikely? there isn't a corner of her bed (can't remember if she's crated or not) that she's chewing, maybe just after she's woken up and is waiting for you? I know some dogs on here get a bit of bile if they have an empty stomach in the mornings, could this beit?

I gave her a snack last night and she still retched or whatever it is this morning, but not as much. I also washed her bedding last night and gave her some honey to try and soothe her throat. She did it a couple times yesterday evening too. I have ruled out irritation from pulling because there are no other signs that match up. OH thinks she has something in her throat (like a piece of stick)...if it happens over the weekend I'm going to take her to the vet, even if it ends up being nothing I would feel better.

Just remembered something.... Keep an eye on her neck area for lumps. Monty got a really sudden, large abscess on his neck.( As in nothing to golf ball size in hours) It was easily treated but the vet thought it may have come from a tiny piece of stick ( or another foreign object) he had swallowed, and sort of worked its way into an outer lump. But I don't remember any coughing..

When on of my dogs had kennel cough they coughed the whole day through, it was worse when they were excited or after exercise. Is it possible to look in her mouth and see if there is something bothering? Maybe reddish throat? With kennel cough we had to walk them short and on leash. No excitement!
Our dogs always get something to eat before going to bed.

This is definitely not the case. So odd - nothing in her neck or mouth that I can feel. I'll see if she'll let me look into the back of her mouth (can't see this going well!)

While a vet visit is a good idea, please don't stress too much. She's eating, drinking, breathing fine, not in pain. I know it's worse when they are small pups, but it's probably also the time when they do more weird stuff which just doesn't always make sense to us.

Agree that with kennel cough it happens throughout the day but worse at night. Maybe there's something she does every morning that gets her a snootful of dust or something? Chewie is big on rituals at different times of day, so in the morning he likes to roll around on the landing groaning for example, and sometimes makes himself sneeze.

She’s naturally a loud dog - hacks up treats/foods, snorts, grunts, groans (burps haha) - so it could be something in the morning with the windows being open and she’s just extra dramatic. She stops once she’s out of her crate - maybe crying to get out is linked...
