Lambies for Red please

A few weeks ago F noticed that one of Red’s lower incisor teeth is loose. We were away at the time so took her to the vets as soon as we got home. It is not good news. As well as that tooth needing to come out, she has massive gum recession and in all likelihood will loose more teeth Especially back teeth. I was so upset at the time. I have been so on it brushing her teeth each day. The vet would have booked her in the next day but her emergency slot had just gone. Added to this we were going away again for two weeks but not with Red this time. Fortunately Red was showing no signs of pain so she is booked in today (we got home yesterday). Both the vet and the kennels were very good in there being a mechanism that should she become in pain, pain relief would be available. I went away with a very heavy heart but also knew she was in good hands. Fortunately no sign of pain and she was fine in the kennels. We have used these kennels for years and they are still owned and run by the same people and have had the same staff for years which says a lot to me. Also the fact she goes running off with them when we arrive is a good sign.

So this morning - no breakfast. She’s staring at me as I type. In a bit I will take her for a short on lead walk and then it will be off to the vets. I am so nervous - she’ll be gone all day. This will be her second general anaesthetic this year.

I’m so sorry to read this. Poor Red. Hopefully the pain meds will be effective and she won’t have any problems eating after the op. Snowie had an epilus (lump) removed from his gum together with some bone and you would never have known anything after the op. I hope Red is similar. Thinking of you both xxx

Just spoken to the vet nurse on the phone. Red has had the loose tooth removed and is out of the anaesthetic. She had to have two lots of fluid but she said she is as she should be at this point. Apparently the vet is writing up about Stage 2 which means there will be more that needs to be done and I just dread hearing this. I’m really struggling with all of this

I'm so sorry to read about the teeth/gum trouble of Red! It is a worry when they have to undergo anaesthetic procedure. I know Finn had to undergo this as well about 2 years ago! Also for a tooth and at the same time the vet extracted 2 front teeth while they were loose. It made us realise that anaesthetic is not an option for Finn anymore.....

I hope that Red soon will be home!!

It’s really understandable to be struggling with this, I’m sorry you’re going through it. Have you got anything that helps managing it right now?

Thank you again everyone for your lovely supportive comments. She is now home and resting. She will need at least two back teeth extracted in two months time. I will find out more at her post op check next week. Apparently her teeth are quite worn down - my thoughts - too many frozen kongs or ball play (she is ball obsessed)? Who knows? For now I am just relieved to have her here by me
