He certainly has the fine head of a field doggy, and he doesn't have a show dog's otter tail, but his leg-to-body ratio looks a lot lower than it is for many field lines dogs (mine included). I'd love to see him standing on flat ground, from the side

Obviously not a Labrador ! This was Lily , we rescued her and her brother whilst living in France . They were living in appalling conditions with a massive pack of interbreeding terriers .We knew that they both had health problems from the start, but Lily lived to be 8 years old , Paddy only 2 , but they had wonderful lives ! She was a tiny little thing and yes, she is on the table !

Yes, of course he's still a puppy and they can be a bit all over the place as they tend to grow at the back then the front catches up, but he's also not stacked (standing on a flat surface with his legs "properly" underneath him to see his structure best), but he's definitely a bit more substantial than some of the field dogs.
I don't have any of Shadow standing still (I'm not sure he ever has ) but here he is at maybe 16 weeks. We only got him at 14 weeks.
OK, his leg is extended, but you can see how the ratio of leg to body looks far more with Shadow that with Buddy. Conformationally, around 50:50 is perfect, which is far more like what you see with Buddy
And, since I'm looking at some puppy pictures again, here are Willow and Shadow the day we brought him home:
