Librela?

A fresh eye with a good knowledge of available pain relief would be a good idea. Perhaps exploring a few more alternatives might help. I use paracetamol with liberal per my vet you can use them it's just anti inflammatories you can't.
I have tried most of the pain relief and I don't want him to be drugged up to the nines. Although he is very, very lame, he seems happy enough when out, shows no sign of pain. However, I would like to give him Paracetamol occasionally, how much Paracetamol do you give, regularly or when you think he might need it?

Rory is 32 kg and gets 1/2 a 500mg tab twice a day

I am sorry that Rourke's having such trouble @Jelinga , it doesn't sound like you've had support from the vet on this. I'd definitely echo @Beanwood that he needs to be seen by someone else, particularly in addressing the pain aspect. With our recent experiences with Kipper I understand how difficult it can be to find the right person, but you and Rourke need an engaged vet on this. It might need some pushing, but will you ask for a 2nd opinion, or referral if that is still unsatisfactory?

@HAH, my vet has retired, though he did work one day a week, but has just had a hip replacement. He referred me years ago when Rourke had tendonitis in both shoulders to an orthopaedic specialist and would refer me now, it is me who is reluctant. Anne is a great vet, but is so popular I can't get an appointment with her, the young Spanish vet was very thorough, the new vet I didn't take to. I would quite like to change vets, but being a friend of Richard's wife (and she was very good to me and took us both to the referral vets way back) and having worked for Richard, it feels wrong. I will see what the result of the x-ray reveals. I don't feel Rourke is in much pain as when we get up in the morning, he leaps about, killing Teddy, enjoys his walk. It is upsetting seeing him so lame though. The only pain relief we haven't tried is Tramadol, we have tried all the others. If as a result of the x-ray, surgery would help, then I would certainly go along with that.

The vet at the practice I would move to, is a friend of my vet and excellent, but sadly he is retiring within next month or so. Veterinary surgeons seem to have changed recently, not wiling to work out of hours, surgeries bought up by a large company.

Well that does sound awkward, and I completely sympathise with the delicacies. Is Richard (married to your friend, and the chap you worked for) the vet who's just retired? Or is that a different fellow? Hopefully the x-rays will be helpful, but I guess won't show any soft tissue issues. The main thing is that you don't feel Rourke is in much pain - you know him best. If I can help in searching for vet options let me know, our vet physio is pretty well connected so may have recommendations for your neck of the woods.

HAH, yes Richard is married to Elaine and I used to work for Richard. I would be grateful if you would search for vet options. I don't feel able to go to Willows in Birmingham and have been to Jock in Worcester, but there maybe a fairly local vet who has an interest in arthritis. Rourke was very stiff when he got up this afternoon, but once out, he seemed to enjoy himself, walking and exploring the field and wood with a German Shepherd.

Hunter also had his shot on Wednesday. He was starting to limp really bad again during the weekend and we are now seeing an improvement today. Slight extra drinking and extra weeing too but OK again. Chocco idiot levels are restored to 100%.
My dafty has hurt his foot too he just got an abrasion so we're putting on special cream and hibiscrub to make it better. Glad Hunter is improving again.

I think it does help Rourke, had his second one last week. Hydrotherapist said she has seen some very good results with Librela which is encouraging.
