Librela

Hello, Molly will be 12 in September and she has arthritis. She has been on Metacam and Pardale but has been in more pain this week. She has weekly hydro. Saw vet today and Molly has had her first injection of Librela. I have read that there is around 45% efficacy rate and if there is no improvement after second jab it is unlikely to be effective at reducing pain. Just wondering what the experience has been of others on here. Molly is a darling girl and I want to do all I can for her dog.

Hi Daisy, welcome to the Forum.

I don't have any experience of Librela myself, but there is a thread with others experiences in the Feeling Ruff section, which you might find helpful.

Is that Molly in your avatar?

Welcome Daisy and Molly. I don’t have experience of Librela but others on here do. I do have experience of a lab with severe arthritis - sadly she is no longer with us but we managed for quite a long time with metacam, Yumove and salmon oil. She was then given tramadol which zoned her out too much. I hadn’t heard of Librela then - I hope it helps Molly

Hi and welcome. My 9 year old Rory has been on librela since October 2021. He's done really well on it and has had no problems so far. In the first week of having it I noticed s huge change in him. He was much happier and much more mobile. He was having fun and was like a much younger dog. He's still happy enjoying his walks and much more comfortable. He's had no real side effects and been extremely well. He has severe spondylitis of his lower spine and is because of other issues can't tolerate many medications. I've been very happy with the drug. I can tell when he needs his next dose because he seems uncomfortable.

Hello and welcome to the forum @Daisy. Sorry I don't have any experience of Librela, but I am sure that other members will be able to help you.

This is Molly in my Avatar. Thank you for all of your responses. I will keep you updated with how Molly is doing. She has had a painful week, but I am hopeful Librela will help her. This maybe wishful thinking but this morning she seemed a lot better. Not sure if results can be seen in 24 hours after her first jab. We are off to hydro later, it will be interesting to see what her hydrotherapist thinks.

Thank you, fingers crossed. I dread the day when we lose Molly, the thought of it hurts a lot. We have never left her, taken her with us on holiday and weekends away and holidayed in the UK. We have rented some lovely cottages in truly stunning parts of the UK. Preferably near water which like all Labs she loves to swim and still does. We call her 'my lady' because she will sit and stare at us until we do what she wants. As she has got older she can be quite stubborn. My daughter has a cockapoo and when they visit she looks at him as if to say 'not him again' and then she refuses to look at him. She is super friendly and loves humans.

Molly, looks and sound adorable, a true Lab! Hahaha. How did the Hydro go? My parents have a doberman who is 5 , he will be attending hydro for the rest of his life after an accident, it works wonders for him. Although he does get tired out afterwards... which is a good thing right? Hahaha. :) All the best for Molly.

Hello, She had hydro for a year and it was great. But on top of her arthritis she now has disc disease which is a cushion between the vertibrae has popped out. This resulted in her being unable to use her back legs. Took her straight to the vets (thinking the worse, the vet knew exactly what it was. She regained some use in her legs and has been on strong pain killers. She has improved a lot,but she is not allowed to climb stairs and cannot be take for walks so she potters around the garden. Went to Vet again on Monday and they have reduced her pain meds, which were making her very sleepy and we have to carry on as we are for a few more weeks. No hydro for at least 6 weeks. She had her second Librela jab and it is amazing. The next day she was a different girl. Her front legs are the main ones affected by arthritis. So all in all she is doing OK She is 12 in a few weeks, but she still wags her tale and has not gone off her food (as if). Thank you for getting in touch.

Hello, Molly had her second jab on Tuesday and I noticed a huge improvement despite her back problem. Her back legs are still a bit weak, but she can stand and walk. She has not been Xrayed and the vet did mention spondylitis, but she has responded to treatment. Did Rory's back legs fail to support him initially? Glad he s doing well. Thankyou for your response.
