A new lump! Another GA just 2 months after the grass seed was removed from his foot.
Last Saturday we were at a beautiful farm restaurant in Elgin where the resident dog, Oscar, was in love with Snowie. A 1-year-old wired haired Jack Russell. The cutest doggie you’ve ever seen. I couldn’t stop snapping pics of Snowie and Oscar together. And then later that evening I was looking through them. Something caught my eye in Snowie’s open mouth. A lump?? I quickly stuck my finger in his mouth, and there it was. My heart sunk.

Of course a Saturday night. Long wait till Monday. To find out my vet had fallen off her horse. Soonest appointment Thursday. Saw her yesterday. She suspects a connective tissue growth (I forget the name). She said it’s not bleeding, which is a good sign, otherwise she’d be worried it is cancer. But it could be cancer. Her worry is that it grew so fast; she’s sure she’d have seen it when she operated for the grass seed 2 months ago.
About 6 weeks ago, we did think his mouth stunk of carrion. I felt on his palate for a stuck bone, nothing. I didn’t think to feel on the lower jaw. This lump is behind his bottom left canine. Very difficult to see unless he keeps his mouth wide open and it’s not hidden by his tongue. But it’s huge. So worried.
Getting biopsied today. I’m not sure if the vet will remove it completely or just take a sample. Was too upset to think about asking her about the details. She said she’d clean his teeth at the same time if needed. The biopsy results take 10 days!! Long wait.
The good news is she said he could have a small breakfast because his op is after midday. So we woke up at 5.30am and he got 1/2 of his normal breakfast. Hope he didn’t notice!
I’m hoping it’s something stuck in his gum, given the smell and that he has been rubbing his mouth from time to time. The vet said the smell could just be food stuck between the lump and the tooth.
This poor dog. Every three months another lump, another op. At least he’s full of energy. Yesterday my husband said he ran so fast on the mountain in hot pursuit of his girlfriend, Maxy, also a yellow lab. Unfortunately he likes to mount her, but she comes to find him and licks his lips, bumps him in the chest, and jumps all over him.
