Maxx attacked by a pug on wheels

There is a little pug that has lost the use of his back legs and has a little trolley with wheels attached to his back half. He and Maxx do not like each other but are always on lead and just have the odd grumble if they pass on a walk

I wasn't there, but Steve said he was standing talking to one of our many friends we know through walking our dogs when the pug's elderly owner lifted him out the car just in front of them and before he could get the lead on the pug raced over to Maxx and started biting his face and snarling very aggressively. Maxx defended himself verbally and of course could have bitten him in half without trying due to the massive size difference; but thank goodness he didn't. The pug bit Steve on the leg but luckily it is winter and he had thick pants (trousers) on and it didn't break his skin. Poor Steve was trying to pull the pug off Maxx and the owner was helpless

I guess all well that ends well with no harm done to either dog (or any human). The main fallout was poor little Winston the small fluffy white dog who is a mad fan of Maxx's and always tries to give him kisses. He was apparently shaking and genuinely traumatized and Steve suggested his Mum put a bit of whiskey in his milk when they got home (jokingly of course!)

Ugh. Pugs are the bane of our dog’s lives - why are they so aggressive - sorry I know they all aren’t? Poor Maxx and little Winston. Not nice for Steve either to be bitten and have to get the pug off Maxx

Oh no, poor Maxx, and Steve of course.
Sounds like the pug might be allowed to get away with a bit much bad behaviour.
My experience of them isn't great either. One that used to live up the road from us always barked and lunged at Lilly if it passed.
Hope everyone is ok, particularly wee Winston

I’m sorry to read this. Big dogs always have to just put up with nasty little dogs.

Interestingly, where I live, pugs are absolutely lovely. They are considered the easiest of dogs. The receptionist at our vet just bred a litter of pugs. She kept back a pup. Here is the pup wanting to say hallo to Snowie. The receptionist was holding onto her back leg while she was ringing up our bill.

Poor Maxx and Steve - I hope they're both ok.
I was recently reading some studies discussing the benefits of NOT sleeping immediately after a traumatic event, as apparently sleep can enable the memory to be consolidated. One study (sorry I don't have the links to hand) suggested that quiet but pleasurable activity was the best follow up to trauma. This was in humans but I can imagine the same applying to dogs.
