He's lost more weight too! He's down to 40.4 kilos (from 47.8) and the vet said he's a bit skinny! He showed Steve how you can clearly feel his ribs at the top and said he needs to put in a couple of kilos. We dont agree but will make sure he doesn't lose any more

He checked his ears and they were fine so the head shaking must be from the lump irritating him s bit. Ditto the sneezing.

Here he is and I really don't think he is too
skinny

Definitely doesn’t look too skinny to me, either. Well done getting him trim!

Squidge’s ribs are a very different shape to the others’. With the twins, when they are fighting fit, you can see the ripples of the ribs all along. With Squidge, you can mostly see just the end ones. If I could see all her ribs, she would be way too skinny, but I do like to be able to very easily feel the last knobbly one without applying any pressure, and for her to have a nice tuck-up and tuck-in.

Sorry you’re having this problem on your first proper weekend home. Aren’t you just meant to be relaxing?! I hope the lump resolves quickly.

I don’t think you can really tell how thin or fat a dog is when they’re lying down. Bits get squished this way and that. Better to have him stand up and then have a good look.

Poor Maxx - hopefully the lump resolves soon and stops bothering him.

That's a lot of weight to lose (for Carbon it would mean he disappeared  ) but Maxx was doing a lot of playing while you were gone so it makes sense. If you feed and exercise him the same as before your trip, he'll probably just slowly gain it back anyway.

My vet in Germany constantly tells me that Carbon is 2 kg too thin. I just nod my head and look appropriately concerned but don't change his diet (which, by the way, the same vet praises as his lab work has been so good). He eats a ton of good food and has lots of energy. I honestly think most people (including vets) are used to seeing heavier Labs and have mini-freak outs if they see one that doesn't have that extra padding.

Our vet here in Andorra is always super gushy about how strong and fit our dogs are. When we saw the other vet with Shadow the other day, he was also full of praise about him and said how he's noticed the others and been impressed with how good they all look. Bearing in mind I do think Shadow is a little too skinny at the moment, but this vet was saying that most of the Labradors he sees are fat and lazy. Points at Shadow's rippling muscles - "This dog is not lazy". :cwl:
