Maxx is off to the vets

Steve and Maxx just left for the vets as Maxx has a lump on his chest that we want to get checked out. We also want the vet to give his ears a good clean as we are rubbish at it as he hates it so much we struggle to do a proper job

I'm sure the lump is nothing but lambies just in case please

The fluid in the lump is clear, which is good, but he will check it properly under the microscope later

Poor Maxx has a mild fungal infection in one ear so drops twice daily and back for another look next week. Wish us luck! The boy turns into a ninja as soon as any bottle with a pointy tip comes out

As does Hugo, I feel your struggle! Especially after Axel was the easiest to clean and put drops in his ears.

Steve said Maxx was (unusually) as good as gold at the vets and sat quietly while the vet did his inspection and ear cleaning. The only time Mad Maxx came out was when he launched up and put his front paws on the reception counter and tried to steal a stuffed toy that was sitting there

His weight has crept up - 49.4 - but we could already tell so we bought some eye-wateringly expensive weight management kibble from Black Hawk a couple of weeks ago. Maxx's friend Gigi the brown lab easily lost 5 kilos on it so we hope to see the same result. We've already seen a (sorry if TMI) big increase in the size of his poo's but the vet said that is normal as this food has more fibre.

Do you have such people as canine nutritionists in Oz?
I am given to understand that yeasty ears can be linked to diet .
Also, have you considered a properly made raw food for him? I am at risk of becoming a bore I know but the benefits I have seen with Cass are tremendous. Really small poos for one thing!

Good to read that the lump is ok. Good luck with the ear cleaning. Have you done it just before feeding him his meals, so the meal is seen as reward for accepting the drops? Or for taking his mind off the drops!

Just catching up, so many of our dogs are ageing now, and needing vet appointments, inevitable I suppose. Lots of Lambies for Maxx, hope the lump is nothing worrying.
