Maxx is sick

Hmmmm I don't know what to think. He hadn't done a poo but they sent him home. He just did a big diarrhoea and has fallen sound asleep in his bed next to Steve on the couch. I'm cooking chicken for his chicken and rice - no interest. The vet said the senior vet advised to take him off antibiotics as soon as his symptoms alleviated because the senior vet just came back from a conference where the latest is to do just that to avoid damaging the good tummy bacteria. Our vet even called it "a leap of faith". Anyway we will monitor him tonight but he just still seems unwell

The vet rang again to see how he was settling and we mentioned the diarrhoea. She said it was expected and to just make sure it doesn't last more than a day or two and watch out for blood. Steve and I sat down for our dinner of fish 'n' chips and Mr Maxx was up and very very interested which was great to see. He can't have anything oily so nothing for him sadly. We have to give him this digusting pro-kolin paste that he hates but Steve put little bits of it in chunks of chicken and fed it to him and he ate it enthusiastically! Yay!

That’s a shame as Red loves it and happily licks it when I need to give it her. I really rate it for upset stomachs. Hope it sorts Maxx out

Maybe worth a mention that plain steamed white fish is also excellent for upset tums . Mix it with the rice and add a little of the fish liquid to the bowl , to assist hydration xxx

You could also consider kefir. It’s a great probiotic, Snowie responds well to it. Great way to get fluids in, too. And if you make it yourself, even better—a study showed that homemade kefir has much higher good bacteria count than any store bought yogurts.

I feel like diarrhea after all those fluids he got sounds pretty reasonable, but still disheartening to see of course. He was probably so happy to be home and have a good solid rest where he is happy and comfortable Glad he’s interested in food though, very good sign!

Bless him. He's body has been through a lot so a runny pooh is expected. Roasted pumpkin also worked for Hunter. Lots of cuddles and I hope you all have a decent night XXX

Flicka loves the pro-kolin paste and she is very fussy normally! She has a 'nervous' tummy and has diarrhoea after any scary happening. A friend recommended Hills Prescription Diet called Gastrointestinal Biome and just one meal on it has made a difference, it is not a forever diet. It may help Maxx at the moment? I do hope he settles down as it is such a worry when they are ill. It was encouraging that he was interested in the fish and chips.
