Merlin a bit down

Update - Merlin had an xray today of his spine and hips, as well as a blood test and teeth cleaning. All good with the spine and the blood test was also good, but his hips are, as we knew, terrible. The vet said it's unbelievable that he can cope as well as he does, and she complimented us on our good care of him. Luckily there is not much sign of arthritis yet, but you could really clearly see on the xrays that the ball end of his joint does not match the socket... Poor lad.

However, the good news is that he can and does cope beautifully. We have just come back from a holiday on the Devon/Cornwall border, and he walked miles of the SW Coastal Path with us every day, which is very hilly and requires a good level of fitness. We will up his supplements, and the vet suggests hyaluronic injections, but she says he does not need physiotherapy yet, and that we should just continue doing what we have been doing. He has also lost weight, down from 36kg at Christmas to 34kg now, and looks very slim and fit.

All in all I am very glad we had this checkup and xray done. We know where we are now, and can deal accordingly.
