Also remembering Millie , our little rescue terrier , we adored her . Millie was a former stray who was firstly in the council Pound and then into a local shelter where we spotted her . We were aware of her problems ,fairly sure that she had been abused , her fear of feet told its own story , she wouldn't walk directly past us , always took a detour . As with very many smaller dogs who are abused , they end up with brain damage to a greater or lesser degree , due to human feet usually making contact with their heads , Millie being no exception . She was taken under Sams kind wing immediately , and they quickly became a bonded pair , she adored him , he taught her to trust and be loved . We had Millie for two years until her passing in 2016 , not long enough but she knew real love and life in those two years ! Here she is with me, taken in 2015 , bless her xx

How did the brain damage manifest, if you don't mind me asking? We have a 4.5 yr old Jack Russell mix rescue who was a stray for the first 2.5 years of her life, she surely was abused, and has many quirks but is a sweet girl.

She began to have seizures , but was beyond the age where seizures are attributed to Epilepsy ( she was about 10sih ) , poor love . Often , the abused dog has suffered a hairline crack in the skull , which has led to scar tissue forming on the inside of the skull . Over time , the scar tissue begins to cause pressure on the brain itself , causing seizures to occur , this was explained by our Vet who had seem this happen before with older former strays . I`m pleased to read that your little JRT mix is happy , I love Labradors of course but I have a massive fondness for small dogs too xx

Thank you , its ironic that not long after this photo was taken , Millie had a nasty infection in her left eye, it didn't respond to antibiotics , so she had an urgent referral to a specialist at the animal hospital at Tavistock . She was diagnosed as having a Melting Ulcer , which is when the bacteria literally eats away at the cornea , she had an immediate operation for a corneal transplant , to save her sight , and it did do except that the sight was reduced by about 70% in that eye, bless her heart x

Oh goodness how traumatic, I've never heard of that before

She looked such a dear little soul, I am so glad you were able to give her love in the last two years of her life. My daughter has whippet/springer, looks like a whippet, first owner used to hit her on the head with his stick and she had fits. However, she is still alive as my daughter took her from him.

That's very sad Sonia , I could weep for these poor unloved dogs x
