Momentous day—weaned off epilepsy meds

So, today was the first day with NO meds. However, Snowie is so used to getting his meds every morning that we’re contiuing with the few spoons of “virgin” sweet potato after breakfast!:giggle: Otherwise I’m sure there’ll be much moaning from the boy!

How is Snowy doing without the medication?
So far, so good—thanks for asking! Of course we jump at anything we think is out of the ordinary. On Sunday morning he was fast asleep when I woke up. He was lying on his side away from the bed and looked dead! I was very worried. So I reached from the bed to touch his back paw—closest I could touch—to check that he was still warm!! He awoke suddenly and jerked up and cried!!! That got me out of bed in a sec and my husband up, too. I have no idea why he cried. Did he hurt himself as he quickly lifted his head to see what was touching his paw? He also weed a little bit. My mother reckoned he weed from the shock of being rudely woken (he is a very deep sleeper... except when a food container is opened!). He immediately got all waggy and cuddly and kissy, and what I interpreted as embarrassment at being so shocked: his expression was smiley and coy. And of course I wondered if it was anything to do with being off the meds. Who knows! Otherwise, he’s the same, but more playful, more energetic, a wonderful joie d’vivre the other morning at the beach—the young Snowie is back enthusiastically running onto the beach. Hopefully it continues this way.

Oh, he’s also recently got new noises. I don’t know if it’s age and his vocal cords. But this afternoon as I parked my car I thought I heard a little girl say “hallo”. I was shocked when there was no one; it was Snowie talking in excitement. Weird. It happens all the time. Maybe he's finally listening to me—I’ve been telling him if he wants something when he’s begging, he’s got to learn to speak in English! :giggle:

Reading this reminds me so much of BJ when we had him on virtually no meds - never quite had your courage though M.F.

There used to be a certain sound we'd hear when he was just about to go in to a seizure, a sort of slight scrabbly noise as he tried to get to us before it started. I never stopped listening for that sound - even though he was fit-free for his final few years.

Fingers crossed for Snowie continuing seizure and meds-free. SUCH good stuff to read x

@FayRose I know that feeling, always waiting for the particular noise. In Snowie’s case, it was vomiting in the early hours followed by a seizure. He vomited a few weeks ago. Wow, that gets you out of bed quickly! We were so thankful it was not followed by a seizure. In that case, hopefully it was just something he ate, or the onset of very hot weather. Always difficult to know.
