Moss

Moss was a Lakeland Terrier. A tough little fellow. He was PTS last weekend at the grand old age of 16 years of age. Game right up to the end.

I thought I'd post about him because his passing gave me pause (paws) for thought. One of the aspects of dog ownership that hit me pretty much as soon as we took on Lady, aka The Small Black Dog, was that our circle of acquaintances ballooned! Dogs must be the greatest ice breakers of all time. Within a few weeks we got to know more dogs and all their names than we could have imagined possible in such a short time. Getting to know the names of their owners took a while longer.

Moss was one of the very first of Lady's pals. He wasn't at all backwards in coming forward to tell her off if she overstepped things play wise and they rubbed along well enough over the years. Latterly he had been befriended by Poppy who amazingly seemed to see that he was getting very old and she treated him with respect but always said hello.

Of the cohort of dogs that grew up, lived and played alongside Lady, he was the last of the line. Rest easy little Moss.

A new generation of dogs has now taken over with Poppy - and we are still no good at remembering their owners' names!

Run free over the Rainbow Bridge, little Moss.🌈
However, up on the Moor there is a new Moss.
He is a sweet, clumsy, goofy young black Lab who totally adores Joy. He's now ten months old and she kind of humours him for a while, then just goes:facepalm::shake::speaktothehand:
And so life goes on. Massive sympathy to Moss's family. The loss of a dog is the loss of a family member and very hard to bear.xxx

Moss sounds like a little dog who leaves some big paw prints behind. I agree with you that it's always sad to lose the last of your dog's friends - not only are you sad for their family and yourself not seeing them out and about any more, but it feels like losing a bit of your own beloved dog over again.

Moss sounds a much loved and loveable character who'll leave a big gap. He'll be joining lots of friends over the bridge 🌈

Yes Moss was a really great little character. Many exploits and adventures including being stuck down a rabbit hole for a week (we think). We were all out trying to find him. I had Lady checking out all the active rabbit holes. Anyway he reappeared a week later or so covered in earth and rather thin but otherwise none the worse for it.
