That’s so awful.
Joe's owners are devastated. He was such a good dog, and in the prime of his life. They have an older dog from the same breeder, Cane, who apparently is also missing Joe badly. I've been in touch with both Heike (Joe's owner) and with Birgit, our breeder, who is also very very saddened.
His owners are volunteers with the Red Cross, and both Joe and Cane have worked as search and rescue dogs for many years.
Thank you everyone for your kind words. As we all know it is bad enough to lose a beloved dog to old age or illness, but an accident like this, while he was doing his job - well, I can't imagine what that must have been like. Horrible.
