Have just read Bill Bryson , Notes from a small Island . Really enjoyed this , very funny indeed x Just realised this is a fiction section, oh well ! x
Fiction , have also read The Letter by Ruth Sabberton , found this a lovely read ,its set in two eras , present and WW1 .

Just reading Lies Sleeping by Ben Aaronovitch nice easy fun read. Not taxing just Newton police fun. Good v evil goblin market in modern day London. Well written like em all likable characters just relaxing.

Oh heck, dropping way, way back into my childhood, I still read ' The Incredible Journey' every now and again - and usually at Christmas. It always made me cry when young and still does now.

I have a very old copy, still in it's battered cover, that I've had for decades. A wonderful book indeed for children.

I read The Last Detective a few months ago. Really liked it. It’s about a detective trying to solve a murder while in the meantime, an asteroid is hurtling towards Earth and will destroy civilization as we know it within the year.

Have you read Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel? Canadian author. I'm one of the only people in my Facebook book group who didn't LOVE it, but I still thought it was a solid 4 stars, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I read it 2 months ago, so that's something.

Ben Aaronovitch! I loved the first few books in the series, but he lost me at Foxglove Summer. He redeemed himself somewhat with the following one, but I'm a little nervous about the new one. Just give me more Nightingale, dammit! Somebody from my book group saw him speak in London several years ago and he admitted that he'd been rushed by the editor and that he wasn't happy with the result - bloody frustrating by the publisher, a crappy book is in nobody's best interest.

Last weekend for the first time I had to stop reading a book - not because it was terrible - but because the content was too difficult. Sadie, by Courtney Summers. It's a YA novel with stellar reviews (and it's beautifully written) but the child abuse flashbacks were too difficult, and I was scared that it was heading in an even sadder direction. Ouf, there's some tough books out there.

I am about to start going through my Terry Pratchett collection again. I love his books and can get a good giggle out of them.

Gosh yes, I read Terry Pratchett over and over and over. I love Robin Hobb too (especially the Nighteyes character, of course.)

If anyone else out there likes YA fiction, especially if you've any Scottish connection, try a book called Crossing the Line. It's by an old school friend of mine, Gillian Philip, and based around a couple of kids up in Scotland. I think it is really, really good and one of her best works....but then I might be biased....

Really enjoyed Station Eleven! I would give it a 4/5...so I’m with you with not loving it as much as some but it was a great book all the same.
