Nelly had a seizure

Yesterday evening , our little love had a partial seizure , her eyes were glazed and staring blankly for about 20 seconds . It is apparently all part of her chiari malformation , poor lamb . We are on watch and wait but today she has been alright although very quiet and a little sleepy, very normal following a seizure . She has been very vocal recently , a horrible cry which is an indication of pain as the brain is being compressed , so she is back on gabapentin which usually works well . The only definite diagnosis for chiari malformation is an MRI scan , at a cost of around 2500 pounds , which we would gladly pay if there was a cure, but there isnt . Our Vet is 99.9% sure that she has chiari , she has all the symptoms , so its pain management , Metacam also helps to reduce swelling . We are going to meet @Emily_Babbelhund and Carbon on the beach on Saturday morning and I can see no reason to cancel , Nelly adores the beach so it will lift her spirits, poor little lamb xxx

Poor little poppet.
She is the absolute right hands with you, and I agree, an expensive test isn't going to fix her.
I hope she has a lovely beach visit with you all.
How old is wee Nelly now?

Poor little girl 😔 she is in the best and most loving hands
I agree there is no point having the super expensive test. Have fun at the beach with Carbon and Emily

Ah poor Nelly and you, it’s stressful to manage seizures especially when they’re unpredictable. You’re doing absolutely the best for her. There’s no point in testing if it wouldn’t change her treatment, so well done to you and your vet team. Have a super trip to the beach, it’ll do all of you good xxxxx

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that Nelly had a seizure. She’s such a happy girl, it’s easy to forget how brave she is too. I hope you and Paul are ok - it has to be really distressing to see her go blank like that.

Some time at the beach will be lovely for all of you, especially Nellie. I hope the gabapentin works well. :thelambiesarecoming:

I’m so sorry. Poor little Nelly. And poor you, so distressing to watch. Would an ice pack on her head help? When I get a bad headache or migraine, I use an ice pack on my head for some relief until the meds kick in. Only the meds get rid of the headache for me, but the ice pack does give some relief.

Having said that there is no treatment for chiari malformation , there is one that we would not have as it is basically trepanning , making a hole in the skull to release pressure on the brain . It is not a guaranteed success and also , according to Noel Fiztpatrick , the hole will heal over within two years and back to square one , I could not put Nelly through this , quality over quantity every time for me xxx

Totally agree Kate, perhaps if she was younger and it was guaranteed a cure, but not put her through that now. xx
