Nelly x

We had noticed that her eyesight wasnt too good , so she had an in depth examination at the Vets this morning , the diagnosis being given as PRA . Sadly there is no effective treatment or cure but thankfully this is usually slow to progress to total blindness . Poor love what with her deafness as well , but she is still a happy little soul and will be cared for and loved . Some of her walks will now have to be on lead but this is fine , she can still enjoy life xxx

I am so sorry to read that Kate. However, I used to go walking with a totally blind Poodle and the owner had her off lead when in fields and on common, I never knew how she always found her way. With Nelly, you could wear a bell, I know she is deaf, but she may be able to feel the vibrations. So pleased you have her, she will be so loved and taken care of by you both and Reuben.

So sorry. Nelly is so lucky to have you. We often bump into Max, a 15-year-old Daschund who still enjoys his slow sniffy walks on the mountain trails behind our house. When Snowie arrives, he wags his tail and struts in his direction. And yet his owner says he’s most likely deaf and blind. By the way he reacts, you’d never know. He is such a feisty little thing with a lot of zing in him. I’m sure Nelly will be just fine with you all by her side.

Awww, I am sorry poor little Nelly has PRA in addition to the deafness. But she will be fine with you, Paul and Reuben to love and care for her. A dog could not be more loved than sweetheart Nelly!

Our old dog Callum was almost blind, but he coped really well, helped by the other dogs - including the then ‘puppy Wispa’.
