This is just horrific, I can't really find the words 
I agree with others regarding care for yourselves and when you feel ready contacting the police , this sounds like a very dangerous dog.
I will be thinking of you this morning and throughout the day.

Thanks again friends . The Vet nurse rang me ten minutes ago , she has been with Nelly all night . Nelly is pretty much out of it with strong pain relief thank goodness and the surgery will go ahead later this morning . The nurse offered Nelly chicken at 1.a.m and she ate a little but she cant have anything else now of course . The owner has not come forward but I will report this as honestly , Nelly came close to losing her life . We havent had much sleep but that doesnt matter , my poor little darling girl xxx

There was her friend with her who was wonderful , helping me to pick Nelly up who was screaming in pain , maybe police can contact all the vets in the area to see if the owner is registered as its an uncommon breed to see down here x

Nelly is about to go to surgery , the Vet rang to say that it will ne amputation from mid thigh so she will be left with some small thigh to help stability . If she is ok , we may be able to bring her home later , I do hope so although he said she would be in some pain of course but , well , I am used to nursing dogs post surgery unfortunately xx The owner of the mastiff has rung , the dog is not insured and she said she will have to take out a loan , so be it I`m afraid as I cant see why we should have to pay 4K when its not our fault . Thanks again for all your love xxx

Absolutely Kate, and that is the right thing to do, both her offering and you saying yes.
No way in h€ll you should be financially out of pocket as well as emotionally.

Thank goodness she has come forward Kate, you don't need financial stress on top of all the other stress. Poor darling little Nelly, innocent as the day is young. Too bad if the owner has to take out a loan

I'm so glad she's come forward. I hope you still report it though, I wish no harm on the dog but it does need to be muzzled when out.

The Vet has just rung me , Nelly will have to stay another night as she needs very strong pain relief but he said that the surgery itself has gone well , Two of the bite wounds were very deep and the skin sloughed away , they have been cleaned and drains inserted but he said she is a strong little girl and is being very stoic and good as gold . We are upset that she cant come home, but understand the reasons as she needs fluids as well as the pain meds into her veins , bless her little heart xxx
