It is a shock. I’d also be in tears. I’m pleased the mastiff owner called. She has no right telling you she’ll have to take out a loan. She might be trying to garner pity. I’d try to ignore her and just get on with the process of her paying for the costs. She needs to take full responsibility.

Absolutely this. Tears are appropriate and normal under circumstances such as these and you'll feel better for having shed them.

So glad surgery has gone well on our sweet little girl Also glad the mastiff owner phoned and is paying for the vet fees. I keep thinking of Reuben who must have witnessed everything, how is he doing?

The night nurse has just rung to say that Nelly is ok , if a little vocal . I told her that she is a vocal little dog, she was glad to hear this as she worried that it was purely pain . The only worry now is that the skin over her worse bite wound does not begin to heal , if it doesnt then she could need further surgery but I refuse to think about this right now . She has eaten a hearty supper of chicken which is good and there is a very good chance of a homecoming tomorrow , oh please xx

Glad to hear she is on the road to recovery. It is good the other owner called you. Agree that it’s really irrelevant if she has to take a loan out or not. Honestly. But at least she is making contact with you. I just hope someone in authority will follow up. That dog needs to be leashed and muzzled while outside.
i still can’t believe you managed to get the dog off Nelly without getting injured yourself.

Good that sweetheart Nelly ate a hearty meal. All fingers crossed that she's home today.

Yes , irrelevant and not your worry how the mastiffs owner pays the bill -- but maybe she was just putting you in the picture , I guess the procedure with be different from an insurance claim. xx

The nurse has just called us again , Nelly herself is doing well and has been walking around the day room on her three legs , a bit wobbly at times but she is coping well and eating . The worry is the two large wounds which are looking a bit dark where the skin came right away , she did say that there is a more than likely chance that she will require more surgery to try and fix this as it could be dangerous to leave them . Oh , what a worry it all is , up one minute and then down again but she did say that all the staff are amazed that Nelly survived this attack , she must be made of strong stuff . The Vet is to assess her late morning and call us with a plan xx

Good news she is up, eating although a bit wobbly! Everything crossed she can now rest and heal.
