New Puppy in UK

A friend of ours has got a new puppy, only a few days ago.
She is worried about socialising him given the restrictions that are in place.
I don't know the full restriction, but any tips about what she could do?
Thought she could take him out for like 5min to the main road (she has a long driveway), vets, anything else she is allowed to do?

Not the best of time to get one, but decided before Xmas and sought the breeder out. Plus before all these restrictions came in place

I don’t think she’ll be allowed to go to the vets as it’s emergency only.

We’re allowed out for 1 type of exercise per day so could just walk him around carrying him.

Some ideas I've been looking into:
Online socialization checklists - lots of surfaces, noises etc. Sounds that you cannot replicate you can use YouTube.
There are currently lots of online puppy classes to help with training and socialization tips.
Car rides to get pup used to the car.

UK sounds more locked down than us - our vet just has reduced hours and we can still walk or drive anywhere, just playgrounds, sports fields and dog parks closed (which you can't take a new puppy to anyway).

That's mostly what I've always done with my pups in the early days anyway. Does she have an area outside ( or inside) where she can set up various things to explore? Boxes, toilet roll inner tubes with treats inside, different things to smell and taste? Pups just love exploring and being played with. Joy liked rolled up towels with treats inside as well. 'Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy' is a good book, easy to read and lots of good ideas and tips. In the early days/weeks you probably wouldn't be doing much more than this with a new puppy , social distancing or not.

I'll sing you both a lullaby

Rock-a-bye puppy, loyal and true
Don't look away or he'll eat your shoe
When the shoe's over the tea towel is nigh
And puppy will shred it with nary a sigh

Puppy is drowsing, cozy and fair
Mother sits near and stares at the hair
Forward and back, the tufts they will fly
And though puppy sleeps, the hair it piles high

So now it is time for hoomans to snooze
But puppy is rested and goes for some zooms
Don't close your eyes or puppy will pounce
And sleep? Not tonight, not even an ounce

Thanks all. Did not realise that the Vets was for emergency only. I was thinking go 5min early for your check up and see different dogs/people etc. Still keeping your distance of course.
Will pass on the link @snowbunny thanks

Now that lullaby made me sleepy and it is only 1:25pm in the afternoon and still got work to do. If only I could find a corner to sleep for a short time without anybody knowing....oh wait I am WFH so no one can see you...
Currently trying to work out an migration plan for 27 Health Funds in the midst of all of this and most people WFH it is hard.

I'm working on a migration project too @VanillaBean. My role is to implement a payments process in the system into which we are migrating the transactions. A manual process at first then fully integrated. My spreadsheet is mapping international payment messages and they have fields with double embedded sub-fields and about 700 million rules. I shouldn't exaggerate. 600 million rules. Sigh. But I'm grateful to be busy so I don't dwell on what is going on

Good luck! And I hope your friend is ok with her puppy.

That's a little bit strange. I would have thought they'd be considered pretty essential.
No.

Some Guide Dog puppies are still coming to Puppy Walkers - no vaccinations at all. They have to stay indoors. 😕

My friend has a litter of Schnauzers, three weeks old now, and her BIL is a vet. He says he may be able to do them if he can get the vaccines out of the fridge and bring them to her, but it’s uncertain.
