I play a game with Carbon that I call "Click and treat". That means every time his lead gets clipped to his harness, I say "Click!" and then give him a cookie - "Treat". At first it was my idea of a silly dog joke, but now he actually thinks it's a 'thing'.

Just back from an hour in the shady forest , and boy, was he good ! I did what I said I would try, calling him up , slip the lead on with the words " Lead good lad " , praise and sausage , repeated it several times during the walk, only keeping the lead on for a few seconds each time , he was good as gold but then tomorrow is another day , come on woman keep the faith

I always give a treat when I put the leads on the dogs, even now. They don't go on "for real" often (although more now we're taking them into town for "social exposure" - aka having a drink), but ever since I got them, I would 1. give a treat when I take the lead off to prevent them bombing off, and 2. give a treat when putting the lead on. This includes when they get put on in the house before we go out, when we are in Andorra.
They all come trotting over as soon as I get the lead out now.
