Nine months old

I guess Reuben is now classed as a Junior , his puppyhood is long gone now although it does shine through occasionally . We have had our moments , thats for sure and when Reuben has his moments , they tend to be spectacularly scary , but on the whole , he has been a good lad . We have just about conquered the jumping up , apart from when he sees @Emily_Babbelhund , he simply adores her and shows it with great gusto and enthusiasm ! He hasnt been a destructive lad , tends to be uninterested in things left around , like shoes , slippers or socks , remote controls and the like , maybe he is lulling us into a false sense of security and saving it all up for a surprise session of madness .
Training wise , well he loves it and is now very focused on balls and his dummy, which is great for walks where there may be many other dogs and people as he will ignore these if we have his ball in play !
He is a very affectionate dog , loves his cuddles and kisses , the first Lab I have had who truly enjoys sloppy time . He loves Nelly , is very sweet with her , herding her around as though he knows she has a disability , maybe he does ?
I had my puppy because I wanted another, one last Labrador and never for a moment was he a replacement for Sam, but there are times when I see so much of Sam in him , or maybe I am confusing this with normal Labrador nature, but there is a huge likeness , especially in size and shape as Reuben is now nudging 33 kilos , he can be clumsy and tank like , bless !
He certainly has the typical Labrador love of fun and life , he is very enthusiastic in everything he does , which I love , enjoying seeing me happy when he is a clown or carries out a task nicely .
It has been hard work , I had quite forgotten how tough it can be to bring up a puppy , but I dont begrudge a second of it and have no regrets . I still have a list of things for us both to learn , but then training is a life long commitment , it doesnt stop, we can never say Thats it ! He still gets me up most mornings at around 6 , but I dont mind too much ,life before Reuben was easy , but life after Reuben is fun , he is very loved x

Nice words Kate, but 33 kilos? I worry that Maisy is 31k, she looks slender enough to me but it sounds heavy compared to other dogs. But at 33k Reuben is looking lovely and slim so I will stop worrying. I am glad he has brought you such joy, I knew he would.

Goodness how time flies! He’s such a beautiful boy, and 33kgs doesn’t surprise me with his height. He’s got a super figure and condition to him - you do him proud. I love that description that before him life was easier, now it’s more fun :D

This morning, my " elegant sensible " lad has been a sod ! His latest trick is to play away when its time to end a walk , he watches me get his lead out of the bag and thats it , I`m not coming ! So , this afternoons walk will incorporate lots of putting on his lead on the outward journey when he isnt so suspicious , then treats and praise and lead off , I guess it might work ! Greedy boy that he is ,he cant even be tempted by food and to my shame, a friend had to call him and hold him for me this morning , hangs head . I will also not have his lead in my bag , but round my neck , so he wont be watching for me delving into the bag . Honestly , its like three good days and then a shocking one, just to keep me on my toes ! xx

It sounds like you’ve got some excellent ideas there Kate  , let us know how you get on!

The only other thing that occurs is to play some games on lead - it helps if you’ve got a longish double ended type one. It’s also a good sharpener for your mechanics :giggl: - things like bowling (throwing a treat a short distance one way, then the other), through the legs (again, careful with this! Not too far...) and Middle. Also Kipper loves a short run on lead, with a bit of restraint at the beginning- push back slightly on their chest, then jog forward so he has to ‘catch up’ :dug:.
