Do dog’s noses need protecting from the sun 🌞? Maybe seem a silly question but Red has a pink nose and I noticed the colour has changed around the top of her nose - looking more reddish/brown. She is loving sitting/lying In the garden - the sky has been cloudless the last few days and the sun very strong. I am trusting her a bit more this year to self regulate and move out of the sun/come inside

I think their ears, noses and tummies can get burnt in the sun, not sure if you can use human sun lotion though, someone on here will know as I remember reading about it before. Maisy doesn't stay out long enough to worry about it so I haven't looked into it properly. :sun:

My two Clumbers have pink noses, it’s part of the breed. They have never had any problems with sunburn but neither one is a sun worshiper. I think sun screen wouldn’t stay on long enough to offer any protection so I would limit her sunbathing to mornings and late afternoons but not during the hottest part of the day.

I made it up to about 2mins of sun cream application before Lilly licks it off, that was using a slow feeder bowl.
We were advised to use any 50+ SPF designed for kids by the dermy vet.
There is a lot of stuff on the Lupus FB page about making sure it doesn't contain stuff that can harm. Aluminium I think? But it's a mainly Australian/New Zealand based group and the products may be different.

I think the issue is with depigmented areas. Black is fine, brown is fine, but the pinker and paler, the more chance of burning.

You should if you can protect all their pink bits, like @Shaz82 said.
We buy a animal specific suncream. I believe there is something in the human one that is not good for animals. Cant remember what it is right now
Both will try and lick it of their nose, but it stays on. We just reaply after a swim, even though it is water proof
