Not stinky...not...pleasant?

I grew up around labs and would notice some houses have that "lab" smell. I know many of you say your dogs don't have smells but it isn't really a bad smell, just something you notice because it smells...different? I have been noticing Aspen kind of has a smell, similar to his paws. I am thinking it is his bedding because that really smells like his paws. I am hoping the stink goes away after washing his sheets more regularly, because I have to admit, I have not been very good at changing them out as often as I should. :cautious:

Any other tips for the lab smell? I am thinking it should calm down after doing washing sheets. He doesn't really get bathed but he does swim/get hosed. He has a milk and oat spray we use that is for his skin cause he does seem to get a bit itchy after being in water and that makes him smell a little better.

I ask my friends/family regularly when they visit if my house smells of dog, the answer is always an honest "no". Hattie smells lovely, she does not have a doggie smell, Charlie really does not have a distinct smell either, well not to me, I think he smells lovely too. I do wash their bedding every week which must help and I like them to have clean bedding. I don't think there is anything else you can do or should do it's part and parcel of owning a dog. Enjoy the smell!! :)

Our Scooby was a bit of a stinky Lab. I mean he really honked when we first got him. He had a shampoo then he was put on fish oil capsules and his smell lessened considerably.

Now when I come in I sometimes get a doggy whiff - and Coco actually smells lovely, what the doggy pong is, it's the towel on the radiator. We have a dog towel for a quick rub-down when he comes in wet, and if that's been used a few times without washing (I kow, slut!) - then the smell is there. I'm sure you will find the doggy smell goes away, or really lessens, with more frequent bedding washing. (Note to self - the vet bed rugs need washing....)

I wash all their bedding once a week.

Zaba has a smell so I wipe him over once a day, usually after his swimmy walk (especially his boy bits) with Cowboy Magic. It keeps him nice and sweet smelling.

Cowboy magic really is magic, great for Fox poo and any other stinky stinks.

Crumbs, you all seem to do a lot of cleaning - to my shame I'm not so good at this. I do wash the bedding, every now and then. probably a few weeks in between :$

Mind you, after umpteen years of dogs and cats of all ages and all stages our house has a permanent pong of 'critter'. Not quite eye-watering I'm assured ... but not far off ;)

I can’t smell Homer’s smell at all, unless it’s fox poop or something else disgusting he’s rolled in. He swims in the river Thames in London, as a tidal part of the river it is silty and not as clean as mountain stream water, so he does get wet dog stinky, but I have friends to tell us when his stinky.

If it’s been particularly wet and he’s been swimming a lot I sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on to the carpets which is meant to absorb the smell.

If I breath is hard enough into his fur I can almost still smell his puppy smell, or that just my imagination.

Maisy has different levels of doggy smell, usually I can't smell anything, sometimes it is noticeable close up, mostly not.

But sometimes when she is under my desk, a wafty cloud of dogginess suddenly appears. She hasn't moved at all, usually she is asleep under there, so I don't know how this smelly cloud is released. It is not the fishy anal waft or windy bottom waft we all know, just doggy smell - strange.
