Oddy is in need of some Lambies

Oddy, one of the dogs that I am looking after for a month, for those that haven't seen my posts re house/dog sitting, has been unwell since yesterday morning when he suddenly started being sick and drinking copious amounts of water. By the end of the day he was clearly feeling very ill and had become quite gaunt, and showing signs of abdomenal discomfort. He's a dog with a huge personality, and is boisterous and exuberant despite rising 6 years old and he became quite flat, horrid to see. After discussion with his vet I agreed to take him down to the surgery at 10 a.m today. She was very concerned and kept him in for iv fluids and blood tests, the good thing being that his abdomen felt soft so no immediate worry about blockage.
Blood results were by and large normal - slightly low potassium and a raised inflammatory marker, but nothing to indicate kidney issues as she feared. So he's had a litre of fluid, antibiotics, opioid pain relief and of course anti emetic.
I picked him up at 7pm, he'd had a tiny snack and he's had one since getting home - fingers crossed he keeps it down. I have to start oral abs tomorrow and the vet will ring me in the morning.
He seems to be resting comfortably now, but I'm sure he'd benefit from an MLF Lambie or two .

Golly, what a worry. You’ve done absolutely the right things and no one could be more diligent, hopefully it sounds like he’s more comfortable so fingers crossed for a settled night and continued improvement. Lots of lambies for dear Oddy :thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming: :thelambiesarecoming: :thelambiesarecoming:

Thank you for the Lambies, they've been to work overnight and Oddy has improved in himself.
The really good news is the food he had last night has stayed down - let's hope that continues.
@Lab_adore yes , a worry for someone else's dog in its harder to judge because you don't know the dog so well.
@Stacia @Jacqui-S his people are back 25thJune, they are in Portugal, thanks to the wonder of WhatsApp the owners have been involved throughout and the vet spoke to them from the consulting room.
@MF he's a drop dead gorgeous "fox red" Labrador, I will post some pics later.

Only just catching up here. One of the biggest worries about looking after someone else's dog must surely be them becoming ill or injured. However you've acted appropriately and promptly and with a good result, so if I were Oddy's hoomans I'd be very happy for you to have him again. Well done  and here are a few slightly belated Lambies just for extra luck.:thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming:

:thelambiesarecoming:for Oddy's continued improvement. So good his owners could be involved long distance, it must take a little pressure off you.
Yes, definitely a huge plus. They told the vet to do whatever needed for him, they love their dogs no doubt.
Yes @Candy it is a concern, I made sure about vet contact before I came because I thought it would be elderly Delphi (also known as Charlie s Duchess) who might decline while they were away.
I never thought of larger than life Oddy becoming ill!
Here he is on the way back from a very sedate
Walk this morning.

It is always the scenario that you never thought of that happens! Oddy looks lovely, I am glad he is doing better hopefully he will soon be completely recovered. What a worry for you I hope you can begin to relax a bit now.
