Oddy is in need of some Lambies

Oddy has had surgery today, investigations showed a blockage which turned out to be a small piece of rope toy wrapped up in grass with some hair to add to the mix. It was located where the stomach joins the intestine, explaining why there was a mixed picture of food coming back up straightaway to yesterday when it was two and a half hours after eating, and he was poo-ing normally for 2 days. They think it must have been moving through until it finally got stuck, and that the grass eating was his attempt to resolve things himself. I'm relieved it is nothing more sinister.
He's staying overnight in the surgery and we will see what tomorrow brings.

Yes, I know what it's like when you know a Forum dog (and guess Oddy is an honorary member!) is having surgery - but there's nothing to say until you hear from the vets!

I'm very much hoping for a straightforward recovery and the loveable rogue will be back!
Oh feller, what a worry. But I’m going to repeat myself and say you couldn’t have done better for Oddy, it was found and dealt with quickly once it was clear he wasn’t turning the corner and hopefully now he’s a lot more comfortable and well on the way to recovery ❤‍🩹 well done x

Thankfully you were there looking after him. You must be very relieved that the cause has now been found and removed. I hope Oddy‘s now more comfortable and recovers quickly - and you’re able to relax. :thelambiesarecoming:

I'm so glad they've found the cause and sorted it out. Hopefully he'll soon be back to normal. I can't help but think though that perhaps vets should have a standard protocol for all Labradors presenting with Oddy's symptoms, 'Investigate for possible intestinal blockage', given their tendancy to eat everything!

I'm waiting for the vets to contact me re picking him up this afternoon.
Early indications are that he's made a good recovery post op, and was ravenously hungry this morning apparently. After all, he's not had a proper meal for a week now! Obviously, they want to be happy that he's going to keep it down. :fingers:

I think they do!

Clinical examination on Saturday didn't point to it It ,and when on Monday he seemed brighter and food stayed down "watchful waiting" was the right thing .

It's not the practice that I use, but if he were my dog I'd be very happy with their service.
