Oh dear, long line for the boy

Never have I seen as many squirrels as there are at Golitha Falls right now , not helped by the farm shop selling squirrel food ! They are everywhere , and becoming scarily tame , I swear they taunt the dogs on purpose , and the mild weather we are having has meant that they are not squirreling away to their drays . Reubens recall has always been good at this place, but for the past few days it has gone to pot , his love of chasing them just overides everything , even food . He tends to stay faily close, happy to fetch his ball until he spots them , then its game on . In his favour he does always come back but not before he has self rewarded by chasing for ten minutes or so . I dont want to avoid the place , this would be the wrong thing to do, and so I have fished out his old flat longline , and tomorrow it will be deployed . He never ever does this on his afternoon walk , he was a veritable angel this afternoon , but only at Golitha in the mornings , so I should warn local friends that if they see a woman being dragged through the wood with a big black dog leading the way, that will be me ! x

Good luck ladies!! You're better women than me, I never did do that. Interestingly, they don't seem to hold the fascination for Cass that they once did, and we probably don't have them in such quantity here.

The hare, though that got up just the other side if the stream from her this afternoon, well now --- that's a different matter altogether :tail::tail::dug::tail::dug:

Good luck ladies!! Thankfully no squirrels, rabbits or pheasants here which I am eternally grateful for. I did squirrel proofing with Charlie in Hampshire as we had lots in the garden. I would sit in the french windows with him rewarding calmness. xx

Good luck with that.

Unfortunately we have had to dismantle our bird feeder for much the same reason. 2 squirrels have become so tame they actually wait for the thing to be filled up, almost tapping their fingers with impatience. The worst things though are the rats - whole families of them, also becoming tame - they are the final straw. Shame the birds have to suffer but we only have ourselves to blame. We've tried everything to avoid these critters getting the bird food but they are persistent and determined beasties

Good luck with the long lining.

I am SO glad we don't have squirrels. Coco is an absolute nightmare with rabbits. Belle used to chase squirrels when we lived across, but they'd tease her then run up a tree. One even threw a toffee at her once when OH was taking her on her morning walk round the block.

Remy is like Arnold Schwarzenegger in squirrel terms...if one evades him...he gives them a hard "I'll will be back...." look, and mostly he gets them. We get a lot of dead ones hidden in a border at the front of the house.

Really, wow! I think I've forgetten what it's like to have a younger hunting cat. At least he doesn't bring them inside as a present!
