Oh I did feel a fool!

A few days ago , Reuben yelped when he jumped onto the sofa , so I gave him a good looking at and discovered that he had broken a front nail . I have been washing his paws after every trip out and spraying the offending paw with Leucillin , my go to for cuts and minor wounds . All ok except that not, he refuses to jump anywhere  He did finally did jump onto the bed yesterday without so much as a squeak but flatly refuses to jump onto the sofa and worse still, into the car . It took me a good ten minutes to get him into the car this morning , he loves the car but now associates jumping with hurting . We got him to Golitha where he proceeded to jump over the little dead hedge fence, no trouble at all but back at the car, he once again he stood there and refused to get in , drawing an audience . One kind man placed a gravy bone in the boot on Reubens car bed , not a chance and then a lady came and placed some chicken on the bed , he saw it but refused , oh dear . Reuben is not a nervous dog but he is a cautious lad, once bitten twice shy is his motto . Twenty minutes later still no joy , he just stood wagging his tail until eventually , in his own time , he got in , we gave him much praise and fuss . I cant send him to playgroup as I doubt he would get into Annas van and at 6 stones, he is too heavy to lift and so we keep on being patient , using bribes and causing much entertainment xxx

Joy is also like this if something has hurt her and I have warned dog sitters or anyone else who might be looking after her about it, only to be told later by whoever it was that she did it for them without any problem. It might be like this with Reuben, perhaps he'll obligingly get into the van for Anna?

Chewie has become like this with J's car after he hurt himself jumping in. Thankfully he's a small boy and can be lifted in. We are going to try getting him in via the side door next time as it's lower and just... different.

Hope Reuben feels less worried in time. ❤

Not quite the same but on our recent trip to Anglesey we went on a boat trip - we had to go down a long ramp which was made of metal mesh - very strong metal mesh obviously!
I never gave Cass a thought - but before we got to the bottom I became aware that she was getting lower and lower , crouching along before eventually lying down. Poor girl was having to concentrate so hard so her feet didn't go through the holes, it must have been so weird as you could see the sea below. Luckily we were nearly at the bottom so I was able to entice her off pretty quickly.
We we got off she walked up fine, although still cautiously.

Also not quite the same, but when Snowie was very young, he didn’t like leaving the beachfront after our walk because there were so many dogs he still wanted to play with. When he realised we were heading to the car, he’d flat out refuse to walk. Our trainer suggested throwing treats ahead on the path to the car and then into the car. This worked a charm the first few times until he cottoned on. On one particular occasion, he lay in the middle of the pavement, near the car, and refused to move. I felt so self-conscious, that other people might think I was trying to steal someone’s dog! Eventually a passing stranger helped me lift Snowie into the car. Otherwise, we’d have probably been there all night!

I remember Chewie doing this once in the park while I was either heavily pregnant or had a newborn in the baby carrier. 😂

Channeling his inner Golden Retriever 😉

Braveheart did jump onto the sofa last night, only because I had a biscuit  He got down when the biscuit was finished , and when I went to bed, he laid at the side of the bed until the wee small hours when he climbed up . Getting him into the car only took about 8 minutes , so am improvement on yesterday , baby steps xx
