Otter's Journey....

Oh no! I'm so, so sorry to hear that poor little Otter has had to go through this at such a young age. Our lovely Solstice ruptured her Cruciate Ligament when she was nine and that was so upsetting and hard although she did eventually make a good recovery. It's bad enough at any age but Otter is really still such a baby that it must be quite heartbreaking. Enjoy that well earned little glass of something chilled and white! Thinking of you and your little sweetheart.:hug:xx

I guess with Otter being so young there is limited precedent for dealing with cruciate ligament damage, so this is all exploratory to a degree.
So, when we asked him (Andy Moore) how many he'd done - zero, OK - how about seen - still zero. But it's OK , because he knows the (Italian) guy who wrote up the paper on the procedure, and he speaks quite good English...
Er - OK so is this experimental? He pondered that one for a second, and answered it's 'Rare' more than experimental. I suppose that stems from the REALLY interesting bit - if we'd waited too much longer, the optimum window for the operation closes - after 6 months old, (Growth phase?) the bones don't grow as much, so slope angle doesn't decrease as much, and improvement reduces.

All those vets who see this problem in a young puppy, and suggest 'waiting until 'the growth plates close' so they can start mashing bone about with their TPLO or TTA's are missing a major trick in my book.

I can't begin to tell you all how proud I am of @Beanwood - these are tricky times, but I'm confident she (Maybe with a little help from Forum Friends) found us the best man to deal with them.

Wow I’m so shocked this happened! Poor all of you, but very relieved to hear you guys found the best solution for little Otter ❤

What a nightmare time you've had, and are still having. For what it's worth, I feel the surgeon you've chosen sounds like the right and best choice. He's been honest with you about this procedure and not tried to tell you he's experienced with it or misguide your expectations.

Very best wishes for little Otter's full recovery and good for you 2 making this decision x

Oh I am so sorry for you all. I can't believe this has happen to dear Otter. You are doing the best for her, you both show great courage

My goodness you have been through it but I think you have chosen well with Andy (I want him at my vets!).
Poor Otter, I hope all is well today and recovery goes well.
I have to admit that most of that angles and stuff just went over my head but Otter has the best parents she could hope for in getting it sorted.

Wow, what a horrible roller coaster ride this has been for all of you. I’m so sorry, but it sounds like sound minds, good knowledge and respect pulled you all through safely. I bet you can’t wait to pick her up. ❤❤

Oh my goodness what a roller-coaster of emotions you must be going through. Well done for your total commitment of Otter's future health. Big hugs for her and you too! I hope she has a swift recovery. :thelambiesarecoming:
I know how difficult the recovery can be with a 5 month puppy. Sweet Otter XX

I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. I am also in awe of how you are handling it all. It is a terrible time for you and Otter but I'm sure you will all come through it with renewed strength.
Look after yourselves as well as little Otter.:hug::hug:
