Wow that sounds fabulous! I wish I could do something similar at our vet. Simba amazes me every time there. He is ALWAYS happy to go in, always happy to sniff around or wait in the waiting area, always enters the exam room happily, and always greets the vet fairly happily. But soon as the exam starts, he’s NOT very happy, muzzle comes on, and misery ensues. Ugh. Vet visits are stressful for him and for me.

What a great vet practice to run such specific clinic. Your understanding of anxiety behaviours is brilliant. It's sad that in some cases one bad experience at the vet can dictate future visits. I find any examination where Charlie is in pain, such as the recent badger attack I find primula cheese works brilliantly and the vet couldn't agree more! :giggl: xx

Rourke drags me into the vet's practice! He is happy to go into the consulting room, but just lately when he has been having laser acupuncture he tends to tremble a little. However, my MAJOR problem s I cannot take him into the waiting room if there are other dogs in there, so I leave him in the car until we are called. I wish our practice had the time to sort this as your practice.

Hey there, just catching up on all Otter's progress and adventures for the past two weeks.

First of all :cancan::monkey::cancan: for the amazing result and news that NO MORE SURGERY is in Otter's future. What an achievement and relief for all of you! Secondly, as always so impressed with all the care and research you put into Otter's rehab. You and @Mr Beanwood are quite the rehab team. Finally, so happy for you that you've found such a good vet after all the vet issues you've had in the last couple years. That they have a program for anxious dogs speaks so well of them. I realise why all vets don't do this (time/space/resources) but they really all SHOULD.

And that you are doing all of this while putting in so much work on your credentials and studies. Huge kudos and "we are not worthy" bows (that may be too much of a US reference, but trust me, it's good). :celebrate:

Sending the whole Beanwood gang hugs and high fives from me and Carbon. We'll see you soon! :sun:

Now I thought this was interesting. I took Bramble with me on a walk round the paddock. For a while they are both off-lead. Otter is going to be one of those "pain in ass" dogs who run up to other dogs to play...she loves other dogs, just not people! So using my cool as cucumber Bramble to walk with us gets Otter used to being off lead around other "off lead" dogs - well eventually!

Backing onto the paddock is another farm. The owner has roughly 5 dogs, some sort of herding breed he uses for agility. Well they are noisy and he yells at them all the time, sometimes it's quite loud.

Otter does a lovely " look and dismiss" while I keep Bramble close playing a calm scatter game :)

Chillin' in a coffee shop, well not quite chillin' but an insy winsy step in the right direction. This is to reinforce the fact that most hoomans aren't really interested in her. We did move once in the coffee shop, due to a weird woman who couldn't stop staring at us with such a miserable expression...I mean jeez....OK maybe the fact I unpacked practically a house before we got comfortable! bed, toys, chews, treats, more chews, more toys!

Update

We are at 4 months post op, and for the last 2 weeks she has been allowed 5 mins off lead increasing week on week by 5 mins. we are just into week 3, so 15 mins off lead. We have another 2 months of rehab ahead, this was the estimate as the surgeon was basing recovery in line with a TPLO which is generally around 6 months. Her stifle has completed all it's growing, growth plates more or less closed on Xrays. This would have been about the time she would have been ready for a TPLO if we hadn't chosen this surgical option. At her age, with her personalty I just can't imagine what that would've been like.

Today was her longest walk by far, and Otter celebrated with a mahoosive happy Hoolie!

Otter certainly finds water enchanting and is quite the snorkeler, how lovely to find life so exciting.

I remember I had the same with Drift, he was 8 months old before he could be fully off lead, sadly we didn't have the rehab here.
